Dress Warm, Its Getting Cold It was a cold day out there today!  We started off the day with a breakfast program.  Students can come into the school, hang up their bookbags and jackets, and go to the kitchen for toast, fruit, and/or juice.  What a great way to start the day!  Many thanks to the boys and girls club for helping to sponsor such a great program.  After the bell rang we started the day with a sharing circle.  We took turns being good speakers and listeners and asking about each others weekends.   Do you remember what any of your classmates said they did on the weekend?  Our spelling word today was "fertilizer" and our introduction was for a story called "How to make fertilizer".  We doodled a taco and went to language arts with Mrs. Hill. After recess we had math.  In math we worked with a hundreds chart.  If we add by 10's which way do we move on the hundreds chart?  Which way do we move if we add by 1's?  We went outside at lunch but had to come in early because we had some kids crying because it was too cold and they weren't dressed properly.  I hope everyone dresses warm tomorrow!  After lunch we stayed in the classroom and began work on our blue prints for our Remembrance day posters.  How does your blueprint look?  We went to PE with Mrs. Hache and she had a cool looking obstacle course set up in the gym.  What did was your favorite part?  We finished off the day packing the interim reports along with a memo into our agendas.  We wrote in our book of gratitude, signed our agenda's, and got ready for home.  Get lots of sleep, dress warm, and I will see you in the morning!

Hanging Out by Jaxon Fridays always go so fast!  We started out the day with our sharing circle.  We took turns being good listeners, placing our eyes on the speaker and not making any movements or noise.  Each person took a turn asking the next person "what are you doing this weekend?".  What was your answer.  Then we took turns placing a block on a tower to see how high we could make it before it fell.  Before we started I told everyone two things were certain, the tower would eventually fall, and life will continue on after it does.  I was right about both today!  Next we did our spelling word "information".  What is special about the ending syllable of this word?  We wrote an introduction for "How to Find Information" and doodled a candy.  In language arts with Mrs. Hill we played sight word bingo and did a round of the daily five.  After recess we had Make Something That Does Something.  Today we worked in teams to make coffe cup flash lights with the little bits.  Did your flash light work?  What kind of button did your team use?  After lunch we had art.  We drew a scarecrow (with some help from a video on youtube) in a pumpkin patch with some crows.  We also put our first layer of color down with crayons they look great!  Then we went to PE with Mrs. Hache and played soccer!  I couldnt believe how tired everyone looked after gym!  Instead of a book of gratitude today we decided to put some more work into our scare crows, while I signed the agenda's.  We tried one more time for the tower game, and then got ready to go home.  I was glad to see most of the students were wearing hats and mitts today as it is really starting to get cold outside.  Have a great weekend, stay safe, stay warm, get lots of rest, and I will see you on Monday!

Selfie with the Timer Button by Jack Another busy day in grade two!  Our day started off with a visitor!  Mrs. Jardine will be coming into class for the first half hour of every morning for a little bit to help out!  She really had fun today.  She spelled "kindergarten" correctly using the number of syllables, with at least one vowel per syllable.  Her introduction for "How to pretend you're in kindergarten" had 3 sentences, and she loved the doodle!  She will be back tomorrow for sure!  In math we had a quick number quiz (I will record it and post one tommorrow).  We worked on adding two digit numbers, and looked at our hundreds chart for the first time.  After recess we had language arts with Mrs. Hill.  After lunch we went to the library.  I dont think Mrs. Hache was used to classes going to the library the way we did!  Mrs Weeks (the librarian) gave us new bags to keep our books in, and we read a story about David.  Which I-Care rule was David NOT following?  We then had PE with Mrs. Hache.  I love wearing jerseys and playing on a team!  Did you score a goal in soccer today?  We finished off our day looking at Remembrance day poster winners from the past.  What did you notice about all the winners?  We finished off the day with our book of gratitude and gettting our agenda's signed.  Tomorrow is our last day of the week.  It sure was cold today and I noticed lots of students with winter hats and mittens already!  Dress warm so you dont get sick, get lots of sleep, and I will see you in the morning!

I cant believe the week is over half finished already!  Our day started out the day with a class meeting.  We all gave one piece of news, and expressed how we were feeling.  We could only come up with one other word to describe hungry.  Can you think of any others?  Our spelling word today was "invitation" and our introduction was for "How to make a birthday invitation".  Most of the class is writing the title and three sentences in under three minutes.   We then went to language arts with Mrs. Hill.  Today we discussed when the letter "Cc"  makes a soft sound and when it makes a hard sound.  We also worked on our daily five.  After recess we had math.  In math we worked with base ten blocks and with place value charts to represent numbers in different ways.  After lunch we went to the computer lab and practiced creating a folder and saving images to that folder.  In PE today we played soccer with Mrs. Gallant who was in for Mrs. Hache.  We finished off the day with our book of gratitude, and getting our agenda's signed.  Check out the image gallery below with work from our books.  A memo went home today about Tommies basketball.  Get lots of sleep and I will see you in the morning!

School Picture Day by Tyler Today was our first day back after a long break for the students.  We started off today with a quick class meeting.  We practiced taking turns talking and sharing one sentence about our weekend.  Then we went straight to work.  We reviewed our school rules, our class rules, and we did our spelling word of the day "discovery".  Most people used a "c" instead of a "k" when they heard the "KA" sound in the "cov" syllable.  I was really excited today with how many people finished all three sentences for their introduction for a story about "How to make a famous discovery".  We doodled a butterfly and had math.  In math today we talked about adding digits and numbers.  Which one of the two has value?  Does a phone number have value?  We looked at place value charts and how to draw our base ten blocks to represent numbers.  We also did a quick practice quiz on listening to numbers.   Why do we not use the word "and" when we say numbers, like "three hundred and forty seven"?  After recess we had language arts with Mrs. Hill.  How is your stamina coming along in the daily five?  We also did a five finger re-tell of our weekend. Do you know what the five fingers and your palm are supposed to remind you to write?  After lunch we went outside to take a school picture infront of the building.  Then we came in and did some mindful breathing with Mrs. Mckenzie before gym class with Mrs. Hache.  I saw lots of colored jersey's, hockey nets, and soccer balls.  What did you do?  After gym we finished off the day by talking about Remembrance day, doing our book of gratitude, getting our agenda's signed, packing up and going home.  Tomorrow is hot lunch, bring your money if you want hamburgers. Get lots of sleep and I will see you tomorrow!

Time to Go In by Launa WOW this week flew by! Remember there is no school for the next 5 days for students!  Thursday and Friday are PD Days and Monday is Thanksgiving.  Today we started off the day with our spelling word, "convertible" and an introduction to a story "How to drive a convertible".  We doodled two quick monsters, scored our pages, and went to Language Arts with Mrs. Hill.  In language arts today we did the daily five with a focus on word families.  What is a word family?  After recess we had math.  I gave some extra time to some of the students to finish their quiz on patterns from the other day, then we worked in groups for a news story on "rats".  Do you remember how many babies one rat can have in a year?  How many decendants would that make in one year?  After we finished our news we worked with our group to make numbers with base ten blocks.  Today was a hot lunch day!  We had pizza.  Thank you so much to all the volunteers who come out and help make that program possible.  After lunch we had a quick art lesson on how to draw a turkey for thanksgiving.  I wonder why the turkeys looked so nervous?  In PE with Mrs Hache we had a game day!  Student get to choose the game.  What game would you choose if you were asked?  I like dead ant.  We finished up the day reviewing some thanks giving facts, packing our agendas with memo's, and writing in our book of gratitude.  What did you write down that you were looking forward to doing on your break?  Get lots of rest, dont eat too much and I will see you after your break on Tuesday!  Have a great long weekend everyone!

Special Visitor by PC Can you believe the students are over half way through their week already? Our day got off to an unusual start as you may have guessed by the picture of the day!  Sparky the Fire Dog and his friends from the Fire Department stopped by to make sure we knew some basic fire safety and fire prevention tips.  Do you know 2 ways to get out of your house if there was a fire?  Where is your family meeting spot?  Does your smoke detector work?  Remember "Get out and Stay out".  After our assembly we did a quick review of the origins of thanksgiving.  Do you remember the name of the boat that the pilgrims came on?  Where did they leave from?  After recess we had language arts with Mrs. Hill.  We played guess the covered word, did daily 5 activities, broke into reading groups, and we had a writers workshop where students wrote in their journals.  After lunch we had guidance with Mrs. Mackenzie.  She talked about the different parts of the brain and what those parts do.   We also worked on mindfulness and resting our brains.  In PE we worked on some soccer skills and played a game at the end were I saw alot of goalies!  Did you score a goal for your team?  We finished off the day reviewing some fire safety facts and some thanksgiving facts.  Do you remember why said that our thanksgiving is different from the one in the USA?  Tomorrow is hot lunch and it is the last day of school for students this week!  Teachers have meeting on Thursday and Friday.  Get lots of rest tonight and I will see you in the morning.

Spooky Eyes by Caden Today was the start of the students three day week (teachers have meetings Thursday and Friday).  We started off the day with our spelling word "October", and the introduction to a story called "How to have fun in October".   We also doodled a cornucopia of food for thanksgiving.  In Language arts with Mrs. Hill we had a writers workshop and did a weekend report story.  What did you write about from your weekend?  We also practiced our daily 5 routines.  After recess we had math.  Today we started our unit test on patterns.  Alot of students finished but many need to go back and finish up tomorrow.  After lunch we had computer.  We loggged in under our own names and worded on navigating to www.schooltube.com. Do you remember what WWW stands for? After computer we had gym class, but it was cut short due to a firedrill.  Everyone got out safe and we did a great job.  When we came back we talked about the pilgrams, the mayflower, and thanksgiving in general.  Then we finished off our day with our book of gratitude, who did you say thank you to today.  I signed the agendas and we got ready for home.  Get lots of rest tonight and I will see you tomorrorow.

Im Ready for my Close Up by Caleb I cant believe how fast this week went!  Todays spelling word was "apple" and the introduction for a story called "How to eat an apple".  Miss Tucker was in for Mrs. Hill today.  In language arts we worked on spelling, daily 5, and played some sight word BINGO!  I hope you won!  After recess we had Make Something that Does Something.  Today we tried to build a structure that was taller than a marker that could hold up books without collapsing.  We only had a small amount of masking tape and some sheets of paper to work with.  How well did your structure do?  Who was on your team?  After lunch we had an assembly.  Congratulation to all of the winners including the few from our class.  Do you remember who won?  (hint: Icare PC; Good Listener AK, TD, LM; The Hard Worker CK ZS).  After the assembly Mrs. Hache had a quick PE class with us.  We came back upstairs, filled out our agenda, packed our book bags (including the proofs from picture day), and came back in for our weekly Math Draw.  Each morning the students can fill out a math sheet.  If they get it all correct they can enter it as a ballot for our draw.  This week's winner chose the prize "Star in the Morning Annoucements with a Friend".  I think thats a pretty cool prize!  Have a great weekend and I will see you on Monday!

Just Smiling in the Rain by Chloe Today was an unplanned absence on my part.  We started off the day with Miss Mcfarlene covering for me and looking after the class until a substitute teacher could be found.  I received a text from her saying "the students are rearranging your room", to which I replied "as long as they dont touch my collectable action figures".  Mrs Mcfarlene guarded them with her life until Miss Case could arrive.  Our spelling word of the day was "slipper" and we doodled a snake. We did our regular math class.   She reviewed even and odd numbers.  Which digit tells us if a number is even or odd.  Is a digit different from a number?  How?  After recess we had language arts with Mrs. Hill.  We worked on daily 5 activities.  Two words that come up alot in daily 5 are "independant" and "stamina".  Do you know what these two words mean?  After lunch we had library.  We had just enough time to return our books, get new books, and put them back in the classroom before PE with Mrs. Hache.  I wasn't here today so Im not sure what fun games you played, do you remember?  After PE we came back up to the classroom with Miss Case and wrote in our book of gratitude.  What did you say for "how to be a good friend"?   I will be here tomorrow!   Im very excited for Make Something That Does Something and for the Assembly!   Everyone is welcome to attend the assembly and celebrate the month with us.  There are a few awards that will be handed out tomorrow, I know some people will be dissappointed that they didn't win something, but I hope you show excitement for the winners more than dissappointment for yourself (and I know sometimes thats hard).  Its only the first month and theres lots of time in the year to work hard and earn an award.  Get lots of sleep and I will see you bright and early.

Indoor Lunch by Cannon It was a very rainy Wednesday today.  I was very happy to see most of the students finished setting up their page for our opening activities and did the math sheet of the day.  Our spelling word today was "microwave".  How many syllables is "microwave"?  Our introduction was for a story called "How to Use a Microwave". Can you do 3 sentences for an introduction?  We did a quick doodle of a skull and went to language arts with Mrs. Hill.  We went over the expectations for daily 5, did some reading, and played a contraction game.  LA was cut a little short so that we could get our pictures taken.  I was glad we got to get our pictures done before we ate our recess snacks!  After recess we had math.  We looked at even and odd numbers.  Remember its the last digit in the number that we need to look at!  We worked with some pattern rules and did some single digit addition.  After lunch we went to the computer lab.  We worked with paint and learned how to make a rainbow.  We got our class picture done in the gym in the afternoon and finished off the day with some PE.  Mrs. Hache had a game of ant tag and everyone is it.  I asked all the students to sign their own agenda's with a happy face, and we packed up and called it a day.  Its supposed to be rainy again tomorrow so get lots of sleep and dress for the weather.  Have a great night and I will see you bright an early.

Playground Pals by Zander It was a very busy day today!  We set up our page, did our agenda, and learned how to do our math entry sheet for a weekly draw!  Can you think of two different ways to show the number 17 for tomorrow?  Can you draw it with base ten blocks, write it as a word, or put it in a place value chart?  If you can't, dont worry, you will be able to very soon!  Our spelling word today was "watermelon" and our introduction was for "How to grow a watermelon".  We were just about to start our doodle when Mrs. Hache came over the intercom and told us we were having a lockdown drill.  Were you scared?  Everyone did a great job, but I forgot to switch my phone to silent.  When Mrs. Hache texted for my head count it made a loud noise.  Thats why we practice!  I'll be better next time.  After the lock down we doodled a cat and started math. In math we reviewed place value chart and I showed you my quick way to draw base ten blocks.  Can you draw 43 using base ten blocks?  How about 243?  (remember a square for 100, a line for 10, and a period for 1).  Before we could do any work with the blocks we had to play with them and build things!  I think we will be ready to make some patterns with them tomorrow!  After recess we had language arts with Mrs. Hill.   After lunch we had guidance with Mrs. Mackenzie.  She talked about the brain.  Do you remember any of the names of parts of the brain or what they do?  After guidance we had PE.  We must be working on our stamina for running.  Did you pace yourself well?  We finished up the day by grading some student work together, and then we went outside to help Mrs. Hache move some boards from the fall fair.  We didnt get to do our book of gratitude writing today, but I think a good deed is maybe more important.  I think its supposed to rain tomorrow, so get lots of sleep and dress warm.  Remember that tomorrow is picture day here at IBP!  Have a great day and I will see you tomorrow.

Flower Power by Sophie What a wonderful Monday!  Students came in and went right to work.  Agenda's out and pages set up!  Our spelling word was "caterpillar" and our introduction was for a story called "How to find a caterpillar".  We doodled a wolf, filed our sheets in our books, and went to language arts with Mrs. Hill.  Mrs. Hill read from tales of a fourth grade nothing.  Who are the characters in that book?  Then Mrs. Hill worked with some reading groups while other students wrote about their weekends and did a read to self session.  After recess we had math.  We talked about pattern rules and place value.  What is the difference between a digit and a number?  Which one has value?  Would you rather have 5 pennies or 1 bill?  Why?  After lunch we went to the computer lab.  We all logged in and did some work with paint!  Do you remember how many tabs paint has?  In PE Mrs. Hache introduced two new games!  "Rivers and Bridges" along with another game called "Everyone is it".  Which game did you like best?  We finished off the day writing in our book of gratitude, signing our agenda's, and packing our bookbags.  Please check the front pocket of the agenda for today's memo, or the front page of our school webpage.  Remember that Wednesday is picture day!  Get lots of sleep and I will see you tomorrow!

Walking Buddies by Gabe Another week done!  I can't believe how fast the time is flying by!  We started off the day writing in our agenda's and setting up our page!  Im really pleased with how fast everyone is picking up the routine!  Our spelling world today was "Helicopter" and our introduction was for "How to Fly a Helicopter".  We doodled an owl, scored our own page, put the pages in our duotangs, and went to LA with Mrs. Hill.  In langage arts we sorted word according to their ending.  Words that rhyme often times have the same endings.  We also played a game of site word bingo!  Did you win?  After recess we had Make Something that Does Something!  Today we worked in groups, watched a video on skunks, and had to answer questions as a group!  After we finished our "World News" we got to work with "Little Bits".  Little Bits are magnetic circuits!  Do you remember what a sensor is?  HINT: What are your five senses?  After lunch we had the Terry Fox Walk!  Check out the image gallery on the front page of the website.  It was so nice to have so many family members come out and walk with us.  After the walk the grade two's got a special PE.. TOGETHER!  After PE we cleaned our desks, got our agenda's signed, and did some finish up work with Terry Fox.  I will be here at IBP on Sunday for the the Fall Fair!  I hope everyone makes it out and participates in the activities.  Have a great weekend and I will see you very soon!

Say Cheese by Liam This week is going very fast!  I cant believe its Friday already!  We started off the day with our regular routine.  Our spelling word was "alligator" and our introduction was for a story called "How to wrestle an alligator".  We did a doodle of a cupcake.  In math we reviewed our vocabulary, increasing patterns, and looked at our first decreasing patterns.  We even had some time at the end to play a smartboard game as a group.  After recess we had language arts with Mrs. Hill.  We finished up our writing pieces from yesterday and wrote accrostic poems about fall.  What the heck is an accrostic poem?  Mrs. Hill even had time for a round of daily 5 with some read to self and some guided reading.  After lunch we went to the library.  I had a few students forget to return their books, which is partially my fault since I forgot to remind everyone!  Every Thursday after lunch we will be going to the school library to exchange our books.  After library we went to PE with Mrs. Hache.  I saw those mats set up again today and I noticed your 3 minute warm up is now 4 minutes.  Mrs. Hache must be building your stamina!  We finished off the day with some quick videos on Terry Fox and the Marathon of hope.  We signed our agenda's and called it a day.  Tomorrow after lunch at 12:30 the entire school will be walking the track.  If you have raised funds, please bring in your monies.  All family members are welcome to attend!  Hope to see you here tomorrow!  Get lots of sleep and I will see you bright and early!
