It was a cold day at Ian Baillie today! I was on duty at little recess and I wore my winter hat and jacket. I am a wimp about the cold, TRUE, but its easier to peel layers than to add layers outside so dress warm!

We started the day off by changing our morning sheets to be a bit more like grade 3! We have to check more for our punctuation, and our neatness. Our spelling word was "edition" and our story was for "How to watch TV". We also doodled a cartoon rabbit.

In langage arts with Mrs. Hill we talked about idea webs for organizing our writing stories. We also ran through our Daily 5 stations and activities.

After a chilly recess we had math. In math we started out with a listening quiz. We talked about "attributes" and what makes a Polygon. What are the two rules to decide if a shape is a polygon? We also did Flash Cards with a friend, and worked on creating shapes on geoboards.

After lunch we had PE with Mrs. Hache. We worked on our yoga poses and mindfulness.

In Art with Mrs. Hill we painted a rainy day scene! What did your picture look like? Did it have rubber boots or anything else to help you in the rain?

We ended our day with a 3 minute desk clean, we looked at the Adam's Family characters. Do you know why we looked at those characters? (There will be a play at JMH). We finished with our book of gratitude, packed our agenda's and called it a day. Dress warm, get lots of sleep, and I will see you in the morning.

We started off today with our floride and looking at our calendar for the coming weeks.  Next week we will be traveling to the Music Festival in Newcastle, and next week is a short week.   We did our spelling word "festival", a story for "How to make a pizza", and we doodled a purse!  In Language Arts with Mrs. Hill we worked on our "Weekend News", and practiced being editors looking for capitalization and punction at the end of sentences.  Dont forget to indent on each new paragraph!  After recess (and choir practice) we had math.  We reviewed rounding, addition to 20, the importance of place value, and a sheet for math by myself!  After lunch we went to PE with Mrs. Walsh.  I could hear the music and lots of laughing, so you must have had fun.  After PE we had ART with Mrs. Hill.  We worked on designing our summer flip-flops.  We finished off the day practicing our song for music festival.  We signed our own agenda's and called it a day!  Some students asked if they could bring in sunscreen.  YES, but please dont share!  We do have a few students in the classroom that have allergic reaction to an ingredient in some sunscreens.  They will bring in their own sunscreen aswell.  Get lots of rest, get to bed before it gets dark, and I will see you tomorrow!

It was a muggy day at Ian Baillie Primary today!   We started off the day with the spelling word "breakfast" and the story "How to look beautiful (handsome) for school".  We doodled BB8 and put our sheets in our books.   In math we did a listening quiz that required us to place numbers on top of each other in an invisible place value chart.  How would you write (35+57=) ?  We worked on our adding numbers to 20 flash cards and did some two digit additon.  After recess (and choir for some), we had language arts with Mrs. Hill.  We did word work and tried to figure out the difference between "to, too, and two" in our writing.  We also did guided reading groups before lunch.  After lunch we started to put together our tomato sphere project.  We labelled our cups and talked about how we will plant our tomato seeds from space.  Then we had PE with Mrs. Hache.  We came back and got new pens to do our book of gratitude.  We signed our own agenda's with the pens, and called it a day!  Dress warm, stay dry and get lots of sleep!   I will see you tomorrow!

What a great day at Ian Baillie!  Today was the STEM Fair and it was amazing!  All the students in our class had a project and came ready to present!  Every student spoke to two different judges (minimum).  I thought we would be all done and wrapped up by little recess, but it took until big recess!  Everyone was very well behaved and stayed by their projects and worked out of their book boxes when not presenting.

After lunch we changed our books in the library.  Then we had PE with Mrs. Walsh.  We finished off the day working in our book of gratitude and getting our agenda's signed.  Tomorrow is a regular day!  Dress warm, stay dry, and get lots of sleep!  I will see you in the morning!

Tomorrow is the STEM Fair.  The gym is set up.  When you come to school tomorrow you can take your project straight to the gym.  Each table is marked with a number and your name.  Find your name and set up your project.  We will start at 9:00 and the judges will visit each project.  Parents and family members are welcome to visit as well between 9:00-10:10.  Each project will be seen by 2 different judges.  The other classes will come down to look at your projects just before 10:00.  Everything should be finished at recess.  Practice your presentation and good luck tomorrow!

A reguar day in Grade 2!  I was here all day for the first time this week, and it was great to be back in the classroom.  We started the day with our regular routine.  Our spelling word was "chocolate", our story was for "How to catch the Easter bunny" and we doodled decorated Easter eggs.

Today we did Make Something That Does Something.  We worked our egg drop from the top of the stairs.  Students worked in groups and had to lower or drop eggs from the top of the stair case and not have them break on the floor below.  Did you lower or drop your egg?  Did it break?

After recess we had language arts with Mrs Hill.  She did two read alouds.  "Fudge-a-mania" and "The Easter Parade", which one was your favorite?  We did an Easter word search and an Easter acrostic poem.

In the afternoon we went to the school library and exchanged our books.  We returned from the library a little bit earlier to have a special guest!  Do you remember who the guest was?

After our guest left we went to PE with Mrs. Hache.  She let us choose our games!  Dead Ant is my favorite game, what other games did you play?

Finally we came back upstairs, we worked on our book of gratitude, we searched for a golden egg (even though it was purple), and we did a chair change before going home for the long weekend!

I have attached a sheet for the Parent Teacher times if you would like to schedule your time for next week with Mrs. Hill and I.   It is a great weekend to get a jump on our STEM Fair projects!  The links are under the homework section of this page!  Have a great weekend, get lots of rest, and stay safe!  See you next week!  Hoppy Easter!

It was a very busy day today at Ian Baillie!  We started off the day with some St. Patricks day decorations courtesy of Gabe!  We all looked very festive!  Then the other class joined us for a quick practice of our song for the the music festival.  Then we started our regular routine.  Our spelling word was "leprachuan" and our story was "How to find a pot of gold".  We doodled a penguin and started math.

In math, we started off with a listening quiz and did some math with a friend.  We used flashcards to tell us how much money to count.  Then we worked on some place value, and adding two digit numbers.  We all went to the gym to do the big crunch!  I love apples!

After recess we worked with Mrs. Comeau with music for the music festival and how to control our voices.

After lunch we went to the library and changed our books before gym with Mrs. Hache.  I was really pleased to see everyone seems to be following the saftey rules in the gym, even with washer toss!

We finished off the day with a quick talk about choosing our topics for the STEM Fair.  We did our book of gratitude, signed our agenda's and got ready for home.  I hope you all choose a topic for your projects soon!  If you have any questions look at the links under the homework section or feel free to contact me via email mike.mccallum@nbed.nb.ca

It seems like it has been some time since I have posted on my teacher page.  Now that we are all rested from the March break it is time to get back to business as usual.  We started off today by putting both grade two classes together to practice our song for the music festival.  After a practice run through we did our regular morning routine.  Our spelling word was "gruesome" and our "Intro and First" was for a story called "How to get rid of a cat".  We doodled a baby penguin and did some math.

In math we worked on our Unit test for measurement.  We will work on it again tomorrow for a little bit and finish off our measurement unit.

After recess we had language arts with Mrs. Hill. She did a read aloud, guided reading, daily five activities, and finished off your St. Patricks Day art projects that are hanging in the hallway.  What a busy day in Mrs. Hill's room.

After lunch we did a shared writing activity before gym.  We worked on choosing different characters, settings, and problems to create a story. We did get a quick story done before gym.

In PE with Mrs. Hache we played washer toss.  Safety is always the biggest rule of everything we do!  Are there any safety rules for washer toss?  Why do you think that is?

We finished off the day with our book of gratitude writing, and getting our agenda's signed.  Most students signed their own agenda today.

Im really pleased to see all the STEM project forms that have come in already!  I can tell there are going to be some great projects from our room!  Please check out our STEM Fair posting in the Homework section of this page for more information.  Get lots of sleep, dress warm, and I will see you bright and early tomorrow.

It was a bit of a crazy day here at Ian Baillie!  Mr. Allison was in for me today because I had meetings, then my meeting was cancelled so I was back, then I was gone again and Mr. Allison was back!  Thats okay because we are very flexible in Grade 2!

We started out the day with our regular routine.  Our spelling word was "overthrew", our story which included an introduction and first paragraph was for "How to Ride a Bike".  We did a sharing circle on which zone we were in and which emotion we were feeling to be in that zone.  We doodled a shark (but not until after recess).

We got to Mrs. Hill's class a little bit early so we did a read to self in the hallway with our book boxes!  We did our regular daily 5 activities when we got in the classroom.

After recess we had math with Mr. Allison.  We worked on adding numbers 0 to 20 and some 0 to 100!

Today was hot lunch day!  Thank you to all the parent volunteers who help make that program possible!

After lunch we had computer and gym with Mr. Allison!  Did he play any fun games that I should learn?

We ended the day with our book of gratitude and packing our agenda's.  There was a memo sent home today about winter wellness week next week along with the activities.   Tomorrow is the 100th day of school (or Friday if there is a snow day)!  Dress up like you will when you are 100 years old!  I cant wait to see how you will all look!  Get lots of sleep, dress warm (and old), and I will see you in the morning!
