    Today, I read the book The Girl Wouldn't Brush her Hair. Next we had our spelling test and played an interactive soccer game on the computer using our word wall words. At 9:30 we were fortunate to have our district math mentor, Mrs. Sarah Dalton come into our room to play some games to help us with counting by twos to 30. She also played a game identifying even and odd numbers. Due to the rain we had to stay in at recess. After recess we did a short math quiz and counted by tens using different starting points such as 3, 13 23 33,43, 53, 63, 73, 83, 93, 103. At 10:55 students eagerly joined Mrs. Hache for gym.

       This afternoon we had guided reading and a round of Daily Five. Finally students went to the computer lab where they played math games form the web links section of my website. Have a great weekend!

      Today was another exciting day for the students at Ian Baillie Primary. First thing this morning we had a presentation from Miramichi Fire Department on fire safety. Going home Friday is a Fire Safety booklet. I encourage you to make an escape plan in case of fire and to fill out the ballot to win  "Fire Chief for a Day." After recess we read two stories; Do you Really Want a Turtle and Animal Migrations. Next we discussed the excellent traits I noticed in the students writing such as the use of sequencing words (First, Next, Then, After that and Finallydetails and "wow" words! To finish off our morning students had gym class with Mrs. Hache.

         This afternoon, Mrs. McLenaghan came into our class to discuss "teeth" in preparation for baby Ben's next visit on Thursday, October 20th. Finally, I had a guided reading session and students did a Daily Five activity (Read to Self, Writing, Word Work or Listening Center). Most importantly it was Alexis Patterson's birthday today, Happy Birthday, Alexis!

    Today was an exciting day! After storytime the entire school went to Saint Andrews Elementary to see the Celtic band called the Rathskallions.. The Rathaskallions sang many fun songs and intoduce us to a variety of instruments. When we got back we did a few yoga poses and quickly went outside to enjoy the beautiful day!

    After lunch we had a visit from our Roots Empathy Public Health Nurse, Susan McLenaghan. She discussed why babies cry. We read from the book Junie B. and The Stupid Smelly Bus and did a counting circle where we counted by 2's to 100 and counted by 10's from any starting number. We also went outside to play for our physical education class.

Today, we read about locusts in a book entitled, Stories of Migration. We also read a book called I'm Bored. Next, we sounded out the words energy and suddenly, this is easy for us as we know we need a vowel in each syllable. After that, we discussed our Thanksgiving Holiday and each child chose a small moment from their weekend to write about. Then students went for some exercise in the gym with Mrs. Hache. We had a Daily Five and guided reading session in the afternoon. We also read from the chapter book, Junie B. and The Stupid Smelly Bus. Finally we had math class where we counted by tens starting at any number, for example 1, 11, 21, 31, 41, 51,, 61, 71, 81, 91, 101.

  During Language Arts we looked at samples of writing and added punctuation and capitals where needed. We reviewed our writing rubric and students proceeded to write in their journals being mindful of the writing rubric;

1. Opening sentence telling who and where.

2. 5 details

3. Closing sentence or heart statement.

5. Use capitals and punctuation.

6. Spacing between words.

While students were writing I read with various students at their reading level. Students will reflect on their writing tomorrow and will use a highlighter to identify the items in the rubric. Students went to math class with Mr. McCallum, please see his page for details. This afternoon students did yoga in gym class. Next Baby Braxton came in with his mother (Kelsey),  grandmother (Alanna) and public health nurse (Susan McLenaghan). Finally I read Double Fudge aloudand we practised our song for The Music Festival.

First thing this morning we read aloud; chapter two of Junie B. Jones Is A Party Animal and The Very Cranky Bear. Students then went to Mr. McCallums classroom for math. After recess we headed to the kitchen to make Oreo Brownies. Students crushed the oreos with a rolling pin, we melted marshmallows and mixed the two together. After the brownies set in the fridge for 15 minutes we enjoyed our baking! Students have begun to write a step by step guide explaining how to make Oreo Brownies. We finished the introduction and tomorrow will complete; First, Next, Then, After That and Finally.

In the afternoon students had gym and computer. They explored the website apples4theteacher during computer time. Afterwards we packed our bookbags and I read aloud from Fudge-a mania an Walter the Farting Dog.

This morning we had math with Mr. McCallum. After recess we wrote about a small moment from our weekend being sure to tell who was there and where we went and four details. In the afternoon we had computer and gym.

* Sorry, I forgot to send home the homework. I will be sure to send it home tomorrow.

Today we had a dress rehearsal for the Christmas Concert. The children got to see the play and all the class songs from beginning to end. The rehearsal was from 8:40 to 10:10. After recess I read aloud the story Where are my books and filled in the calendar. Next I worked with a guided reading group while the rest of the class did a Daily Five activity. After lunch the students had gym. After gym we packed our bookbags and colored Rudolph which each child had drawn last Friday. Finally, I read the last chapter of Junie B. Jones, is Captain Field Day and I also read a few pages from SuperFudge.

The Shopping Party is scheduled for tomorrow morning!

     We began the day listening to the stories; A Porcupine in a Pine Tree ( A Canadian 12 Days of Christmas) and Over and Under (animals hibernating below the snow). Next we practiced our Christmas songs with Mr. McCallum's class. They are sounding teriffic! Next students attended math class with Mr. McCallum. After recess we played sight word bingo.

    Students were excited to get out at lunch to play in the snow. After dinner students went to gym with Mrs. MacPherson who was filling in for Mrs. Hache. Next we had silent reading and listened to a few pages form our chapter book Superfudge. Finally the day finished with an Art Hub lesson on How to draw Rudolph.

This morning, we made little words using the letters a,i,i,g,g,h,k,n,n,s,t,v . We made the following words: an, it, at in, tin, tan, van, tank, thank, gain and finally students guessed what the big word was and used all the letters to create thanksgiving. We also did The Daily Five (Listening Center, Guided Reading, Word Work, Read to Self and Writing). I read aloud the book Fox and Squirrel and Junie B. Jones, Captain Field Day. After recess we practiced our Christmas concert songs, Blue Christmas and its Beginning to Look a lot Like Christmas. In math class we played an addition card game. This afternoon we did a four minute warm-up in gym and played Grinch and Elf. The class went to the school library to exchange their books. Afterwards students read silently from their library books. I read from the book SuperFudge. We began to learn the basic of chess. Homework due tomorrow and Spelling Test! Assembly tomorrow at 12:30

 Today, we had a rehearsal for our Remembrance Day Program. The choir and classes sounded beautiful. Sistema New Brunswick presented to the grades one and two classes about what this after school music program entails. Information and applications were sent home with all grade one and two students. Students enjoyed gym class with Mrs. Hache after lunch. Next they began their Remembrance Day Posters. I was impressed with their creativity!
