Double digit temperatures! I will be out for the day.  Miss Clarke is in for me.  Mrs. MacDonald will be here this morning and it will be business as usual.  Report cards go home tomorrow and many parents have requested Tuesday Parent teacher meetings.  The schedule is to the left and I put a small note in some agenda's tomorrow so you dont get surprised.  Have a great day and make me proud!

We started off the day with our regular routine. One of our rhyme riddles was "When my brother is sad his face has a big pout". Our spelling word was "elephant", that has the same "fa" sound as "centotaph" did yesterday. We did a "Next," on "How to Act at an Assembly", and we doodled an elephant.

After recess we had a beautiful Remembrance Day ceremony. The Grade 2 students did a great job. They behaved well, they were respectful, they sang beautifully, and they did a great job laying our wreath. I was very proud of them!

After lunch we went to PE with Mrs. McFarlene. The gym was still full of chairs, so they went outside. How many laps did you have to run to warm up? Next we went to the computer lab and worked on Scratch. Some student were able to make their sprite run across the screen! The first steps to creating a video game! If you weren't able to get it today, or your got frustrated, dont worry, we'll all get there!

We finished up the day talking about playing rough. We did our book of gratitude, signed our agenda's, and went home for the long weekend. Get lots of rest this weekend, dress warmly, and I will see you on Monday bright and early.

The week is more than half over now!  Remember to dress appropriately for the Remembrance Day ceremony tomorrow at 10:30.  A memo went home today to invite the public.  If you are in the choir remember to wear black pants or a black skirt and Mrs. Hache and Mrs. Bell will have your choir top for you.

We started out today with a rehearsal of our Remembrance Day ceremony for tomorrow.  We talked about how this is the most serious assembly of the year.  If you are being silly, when the entire school is being serious, its not silly its...?  I was very pleased with how our class managed themselves today.  Great job.

After an outdoor recess we had Language Arts with Mrs. MacDonald.  Our spelling word was "cenotaph" and we did a "Next," for "How to Brush your Teeth".  We also read some stories about Flanders Fields and Remembrance Day.

After lunch we finished our Posters for the Remembrance Day contest!  We had PE with Mrs. McFarlene (and some with Mrs. Hache).

We finished off the day cleaning up our posters, doing our book of gratitude, getting our agenda's signed and packing a memo to invite everyone to our Remembrance Day Ceremony tomorrow at 10:30.

Have a great night, get lots of sleep, dress warm, and I will see you in the morning.

Today was a beautiful day for November, but I was still glad to see lots of winter hats and mitts!

One of our Rhyming Riddles today was "My drive will beep the horn when he arrives".  What word on our word wall did I use to help me spell beep?  Our spelling word was veteran (cvc vc vc).  Our "Next," was for "How to Keep Racoons Away", and we doodled a soldier.   We finished off our poppy story and talked about veterans and war.  We did two rounds of the daily 5.  One round was read to self, and the other was a write to self sheet.

After recess we practiced our song with the other grade two class.  We also chose Gavin from our class to be the wreath bearer on Thursday with another grade two student from Mrs. Hill's class.  We did two quick counting circles with both classes skip counting by 2's starting at 18 and skip counting by 10's starting at 50!  We came back to our class and worked on using samples of 10 to help us estimate large amounts of base 10 blocks.

We had cheese pizza for hot lunch today!  Thank you so much to all the volunteers we get to make that program work! It was a huge success again.

After lunch we had tally Tuesday in PE.  In computer we started our first day looking at the program Scratch!  I was shocked how brave and quickly the students were picking up and experimenting with the block code!

We finished off the day with Guidance.  We talked about calming our bodies before calming our minds.  We packed up a memo for parent teacher interview times.  We signed our own agenda's and called it a day.  Get lots of sleep, dress warm, and I will see you bright and early for another great day of Grade 2!

It is November and it is getting cold!  I see lots of hats, mitts, and heavy jackets on the playground.  Make sure you are dressing warm each day because you dont want to get sick.  We started out our day with our regular routine.  One of our rhyme riddles today was "My mom won't let me go to the movie tonight".   Our spelling word was "Remembrance".  They syllables on that one were tricky!  We did a next for "How to be a good friend".   We doodled a soldier.  With Mrs. MacDonald we looked at the story of the poppy and did a round of the daily 5.

After recess we practiced our song for Remembrance day with Mrs. Hill.  We looked at some skip counting by 10's and 2's.  We did a math counting cirlcle counting by 2's starting at differnt points.   Can you count by 2's starting at 18?  Thats a hard one!  We also looked at using our hundreds chart to help us add numbers.  We finished up by quickly looking at how samples can help us to estimate.  What is a sample?

After lunch we did yoga with Mrs. McFarlene in the gym for PE.  Did you find your picture on her teacher page yet?  Then we came upstairs and worked on our posters for Remembrance day.  Is your poster almost finished?  Remember to get your permission slip signed so that you can get your poster entered in the contest.

We finished off the day packing up our bookbags and writing in our book of gratitude.  There was a choir memo, a skating memo, and the Remembrance Day memo all to be signed and returned.   Dress warm, get lots of sleep, and I will see you in the morning!

Was it Halloween yesterday?  I would have never guessed!  There were some excited students today with a lot of energy.  We started off this morning with a brand new score sheet for our morning routine.  We did a sharing circle about our halloween costumes.  One of our rhyme riddles was "Would you please SHUT the door".  What word wall word rhymes with shut and has the same type of ending, so it could help us spell "shut"?  (What, but, slam)  Our spelling word was "extension" and our "Next," was for "How to eat ice cream".  We doodled a ghost, scored our papers and got ready for a round of the daily 5.

After recess we went to Mrs. Hill's class to practice our remembrance day song.  Then we went to the computer lab and worked on a greater than, less than, equal to quiz.  Can you draw a less than sign?  What letter does it look like?

After lunch we had Tally Tuesday in the gym with Mrs. MacFarlene.  We worked on using tabs in Internet Explorer in computer.  We finished off the day signing our agenda's, working on our book of gratitude, and getting packing our book bags.

Mrs. Hache had to speak with a lot of people in the gym today after recess.  Some things that are ok for home are not ok for school - like wrestling.   It is too easy to get hurt.  The biggest rule of the school is "be safe".  I know its fun, but if you are too rough it is not fun for others playing with you.

Have a great night!  Get lots of sleep, dress warm, and I will see you in the morning.

Happy Halloween!  We started off the day with Mrs. MacDonald while I helped the grade 4's film their first morning announcements.  Our rhyming word was hop, our spelling word was "attention", our "First," was for "How to go down a slide", and we doodled a ghost.

Mrs. MacDonald also led us in a "make words" activity.  She gave everyone 5 letters ( g-h-o-s-t) and had us make different words with them.  How many words can you think of with just those 5 letters.  Which letter is in every single word?  Why?  We also did daily 5 write to self, and read to self.  Just before recess Isabelle shared a snack with us that she made on the weekend, and they were delicious!

After recess we practiced our Rememberance Day song in Mrs. Hill's room.  We did a listening quiz on friends of 10.  We looked at using our hundreds chart to add numbers.  Did an addition worksheet, and played a game on the smartboard with a knight and dragon battling with friends that make 10.

After lunch we had PE with Mrs. Macfarlene and relaxed and stretched with some yoga.  We finished off the day making some cookies in Art class. We packed 2 memo's in our agenda, wrote in our book of gratitude, got our agenda's signed, and packed up for home!

Tomorrow for hot lunch we will be having a $2 picnic plate with fruits and veggies.  Have lots of fun trick or treating tonight and be safe!  Get lots of sleep (dont eat too much junk before bed), dress warm, and I will see you tomorrow for another exciting day in Grade 2!

Today was a very busy and very strange day!  It was our Halloween Celebration Day!  The gym looked fantastic!  What a great job the home and school did at decorating it!

Posted: October 27, 2016

This will be a quick note today because I need to make my Halloween Costume for tomorrow!  We started of the day with Isabelle and Lana doing the morning announcements!  They were very serious and did a great job!  Our morning routine we did a rhyme time with "black", our spelling word was "retirement", our "First," was for "How to Land a Plane", and we doodled another owl!
We did some Daily 5 activities in Language Arts.  We reviewed our I-Chart for write to self.  I know re-reading is important for fluency (what does fluency mean) when I read, but why is it important when I write?  I was really impressed with two students who didn't know how to spell words today!  Instead of interupting Miss MacDonald or myself, they sounded it out, underlined the word and kept going!  Great job!
We all went outside for recess!  Its getting colder each day so dress warm!  In math we did a listening quiz on friends that make ten, we looked at greater than, less than, and equal too when comparing numbers and math sentences!  We also went to the library to change out our books!

After lunch we had PE with Mrs. Macfarlene.  We played catch with the velcro balls. Then we went to the computer lab where we practices saving pictures to our H drives.

We finished off the day with Mrs. Dalton sharing some cool math games with us!

The assembly is at 10:30 and the Halloween dance is at 1:10!  All are welcome!  Remember no costumes or face paint until after lunch!

Dress warm, get lots of sleep, and I will see you tomorrow!

The week is half over already!  Before we started our day today we watched the morning announcment with Denny and Aiden.  They did an awesome job!  They were very serious and I heard everything they said.  During our opening activitities today, our rhyme time word was "bad", our spelling word was "swirling", our "First," was for "How to Read the News", and we doodled an owl.

We also had a writers workshop today.  We did a "How to Make a Sandwich" story.  We had Mr. Bean help us!  We watched him make a sandwich step by step in the park!

Recess was very cold, and it was baby day so there was no choir and everyone went out!  Make sure you dress warm!  I dont want anyone getting sick.

In Math we had a listening quiz on the "Friends that Make 10".  Then we practiced our Remembrance Day song with Mrs. Hill's grade two's.  We came back and went over some greater than and less than.  We also reviewed our counting on strategy and using a hundreds chart to add numbers.  We did an addition sheet as well.

I stayed in the classroom today at lunch and set up the morning announcements.  We started the afternoon off by going over how they work, and what makes good announcments.  Being serious for the entire time so that everyone can hear your news and saving your silliness until the end.  The two girls who did it today were amazing!  We also looked at some Remembrance Day information before going to the gym to arrange where we should stand for our performance in November.

After PE with Miss Hache we did our books of gratitude, filled out our agenda's (dont forget your library book tomorrow), and did a few minutes of french.  Do you know how to ask "how are you?" in French?

Get lots of sleep, dress warm, and I will see you in the morning!

A rainy day, but not a dreary day when you're at Ian Baillie!  Our morning routine is going so well!  Our rhyme time word was "and", our spelling word was "hibernation", our "First," was for "How to get to sleep", and we doodled some Halloween candy.  We did a buddy read today.  Do you remember the buddy read rhyme (elbow, elbow, ...)?  I also asked you to check your buddy with the rule of 5.  If there are 5 words that you cant read on one page, the book is probably too difficult to be reading on your own.

There was choir at recess, and indoor classroom time for the non-choir members.  We had math next.  We went over our "Friends that make 10".  We watched a video with a song about numbers that make 10, we had a listening quiz on friends that make 10, and we looked at 10 frames.  We also had time to play one game of around the world with adding flash cards 0-20 before we had guidance with Mrs. Sturgeon before lunch.

Today was Hot Lunch Day!  The Grilled Cheese sandwiches seemed like a real hit!  Thank you so much to all the volunteers who take care of that program for us!

After lunch we had PE with Miss Hache.  The two boys in todays picture of the day were late to gym class.  You will find out why tomorrow morning. After PE we had computer.  Today instead of making pictures in paint, we learned how to find pictures on the internet and save them to our H Drive.

We finished off our day writing in our book of gratitude.  What was the coolest thing about your day?  We also filled out our agenda's and got them signed before packing up to go home.   Remember there are picture retakes tomorrow for those who would like them.

Get lots of sleep tonight, dress warm, and I will see you bright and early tomorrow.

What a great way to start the week!  Our rhyming word was "deer", our spelling word was "escalator", our "First," was for "How to Swim", and we doodled a Halloween Bat.  In Language Arts we worked on contractions and did an activity with paper, scissors, and glue.

After going outside for recess (or to the gym for choir), we had Math.  In math we had a listening quiz on money, we talking about friends that make ten, we counted money with a friend, and we did a worksheet on counting with nickels and dimes.

After lunch we had PE with Mrs. Hache.  She looked different today.  Did the yoga relax you?

Next we did Art and You and Your World.  We looked at using stencils for our final blue print, and talked about rememberance day and the war.  I hope to start our posters by the end of the week.

We wrote in our agenda's and packed a memo for home.  Remember tomorrow is Hot Lunch (grilled cheese from the rodd), Wednesday is picture retake day.  I do check the agenda's every day if you want to leave me a note about retakes.

Parents!  Please remember to cast your vote this week to help support the new playground!  Click on the picture in this post for instructions on how to vote.  A few minutes of your time can help make all the difference.

Have a great night, get lots of sleep, dress warm, and I will see you in the morning.

A rainy day at Ian Baillie today!  Our rhyme time word was "pin", our spelling word was "temperment", our "First," was for "How to Skid your Bike", and we doodled a skull.  Mrs. MacDonald taught us how to play consonant blend bingo and we went over the rules of hangman for our class.

After an indoor recess we had Make Something That Does Something.  Today we worked on building a lego tower.  What did you notice about towers?  What would you do differently next time to make a taller tower?

After lunch we had PE with Mrs. McFarlene.  Did you get to pick a game?

After PE we got a quick treat for our awesome 6-0 happy face score the other day!  I love cookies!  We also read the first chapter of our new chapter book.  How did the grandfather answer the door when they knocked on it?  Was that normal?

We worked on our blue prints for our Remembrance Day posters, wrote in our book of gratitude, filled out our agenda's, got them signed, and called it a day!  Have a wonderful weekend!  Get lots of rest and I will see you bright an early Monday morning!

Another GREAT day in Grade 2!  For our opening activities today we used "pen" for our rhyme time word, "contraction" for our spelling, "How to make a PBnJ" for our "First,", and we learned how to doodle a halloween witch!  Mrs. MacDonald taught us how to play two new games.  "POP for sight words" and "Word X Change".  We also review our Daily 5 activities.  Can you name all 5 of the Daily 5 Activities?  We did "Word Work" today (only 4 more).

After recess we practiced our song with Mrs. Hill's grade 2.  We came back to the class and had a listening quiz on money.  Then we went to the library and changed our books.

After lunch we had PE.  We had a guest for PE today, what was your favorite game?  We went to the computer lab and finished up our tree painting.  We finished off the day with our book of gratitude, getting our agenda's signed, and packing up our things.

Get lots of sleep tonight and I will see you bright and early!

It was a busy day today (sorry for the late entry).  We opened the day with our regular activities.  Our rhyming word was "rug", our spelling word was "detention", our "First," was for "How to Eat a Bug", and we doodled some different kinds of ghost.

We worked on some more contractions today.  What do you call the funny floating comma in a contraction?  We finished up our matching sheets and worked in some guided reading groups.

After recess we practiced our Rembrance Day song.  We did a Math listening quiz, worked on counting - can you start at 5 and add 10 each time?  We worked in groups to count some money, did a money counting sheet, and got ready to go outside on this beautiful day.

After lunch we worked on our Rembrance Day poster blue prints following the 3-4-5 rule (No more than 3 images, 4 words, 5 colors).  In PE we played several new games with Mrs. McFarlene.  What was your favorite game?

We finished off the day learning some different color names in French.  Do you know how to say the colors Red Blue and Green in French?  I signed the agenda's and we called it a day.  Today was the first time I've ever had a class get 6 happy face check marks and zero sad faces!  I couldn't be happier!  I may have to do something special tomorrow because we ran out of time today!  Great work everyone!

Get lots of sleep, dress warm, and I will see you in the morning!
