A very busy day today!  I hope everyone is busy at home working on their science fair projects!  We will visit them again tomorrow to make sure everyone is making progress (you've picked an experiment / who are you working with)!   We started out today with some delicious floride!  We also got a sneak peak at our school spirit video that we submitted to the CUTE Awards!  We wrote a quick story on what happened when we were tired!  Remember, just like our science fair, small problem means a small story (or small project), and a big problem means a big story (big project).   After our quick warm up we did some measurement in Math.  We were using units of time.  Do you remember what units we were using today with the calendar?  We had a great indoor recess and then we went to language arts with Miss Gallant.  Check out her teacher webpage to see what we did today!  At lunch we all went outside because it was a beautiful day.  After lunch we went to PE at JMH.  After PE we talked about citizenship.  What is the one little thing we are going to try to do tomorrow?  Can you be a good citizen?  We are getting lots of snow, so dress warm!  Winter isn't over just yet!  Get lots of rest and I will see you in the morning.

Giant Hole by ThomasWe are back from our March break, so we have lots of news! Thomas spent the break trying to get out of a huge hole that his dad dug in the snowbank at his camp. Lillian went to Cambellton and went down hill skiing. Mikey has been sleeping everywhere, including a snowbank, a bathtub, and his bed! Jacob went to Wendy's in Moncton and got a spicey chicken burger! It was too hot! Ryan went to Fredericton. He went to the mall and went to Toys R Us. Kaitlin went to Quebec and went tubing down big hills! It was awesome. Mitchell had a sad March break so we are hoping school will take his mind off of things. Gavin went downhill skiing. He went on the hardest hill. Georgia was more excited about going to two malls! She came home with 6 new stuffies! Ben went cross country skiing in Nelson! We all had a great break!   Today we worked on units of time in math.  In LA we did a small moment about March break, changed our book boxes, and made sure we had our books to read at night.  We played catch in PE with Mrs. McFarlene.  We went over our science fair outline with Mr. McCallum!   It will be a busy week!  Stay tuned!

Grade 3 Science Fair The Ian Baillie Science Fair will be taking place Monday, March 17, 2014.  All Grade 3 Students are required to do projects.  In grade 3 we are not as concerned with the polish of the final product as much as we are concerned with introducing the scientific process to all the students. Students are allowed to work in groups of two, or by themselves.  Students will be given opportunity to work on their projects this week in class, but will be required to do the experiment at home.  One week seems like a very short time to do an entire science fair project, that is why I am asking students to choose from one of the following options:             Projects Choices 1)    Which boils faster, measured amount of tap water or measured amount salt water (tap water with salt)? 2)    Does a measured amount of water boil faster in a tall narrow pot, or a wide short pot? More Involved Choices (You can click on the links on my teacher page) 3)    Color Changing Carnations - Plant Growth and Changes http://www.stevespanglerscience.com/lab/experiments/colorful-carnations   4)    Floating Static Bands - Invisible Forces http://www.stevespanglerscience.com/lab/experiments/floating-static-bands Parent Approved Choice 5)    For some families science fair is a great bonding and family project to learn and create together!  If there is a project you have already planned to start then please do!  Please keep in mind the time constraints!  Please keep in mind no open flame or devices which require an electrical outlet will be allowed for safety reasons.  I have included the teacher rubric (although more technical) that the students will be marked with.  If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me.  Thank you for your support,   Mike McCallum

Crazy Hair Day today!   I didn't comb my hair this morinig but no one seemed to notice?  We problem solved for a lost mitten, doodled a dinosaur, and started a new chapter book called Pipi Longstocking.  Do you remember anything special about Pipi?  In math we worked on converting data into line plots.  After recess we had language arts with Miss Gallant.   Did you finish your persausive writing piece yet?  It was -19 at lunch so everyone stayed in, but we ate when everyone else played, because we were gettting ready to go somewhere!  We went to Nelson to learn to cross country ski!  Did you fall down?  Even though it was cold it seemed warm because we were in the woods!  We came back (a bit late) and did a quick science lesson.  Then we closed out the day with our jobs and our book of gratitude.    Tomorrow we wear pink for anti-bullying day.  It is hot lunch (burgers).  We have heritage fair in the afternoon!  A memo went home today about science fair, but we are going to finish our heritage fair first!  Get lots of sleep for a busy day tomorrow!

Working Hard by Thomas  Winter Carnival Week at Ian Baillie Primary School!!!  Let the crazyness begin!  Today was crazy hat day, and we had some dandy's today.   We started off the day with our Mystery box draws that I missed last week.  Jacob won a Tim Hortons Treat and Katlin chose a spot in our school spirit video!  After our draw we went over our routine and went to Language Arts with Miss Gallant.   Today in Langage Arts we worked on our persausive writing, trying to convince people to eat our favorite food.  Then we had recess.  After recess we had math.  We worked on making tally charts and converting the data into bar graphs.  We will be finished the Data Analysis unit this week.  We went outside on this beautiful day and came in to eat.  After lunch we filmed a quick scene for our school spirit video and went outside for PE and did some sliding.  When we came back in we practiced presenting our heritage fair projects.  At the end of the day we went home.  Get lots of sleep for tomorrow because it is crazy hair day and we are going to Nelson to cross country ski!  See you tomorrow!

Look under there! by LillianHi, This is Georgia, Mr. McCallum said I could write the end of day report today.  Mr. Cormier taught the other class math first.  First we had language arts and the supply teachers name was Mrs. McFearson.  I liked her.  She read us a book and then we did spelling tests.  Then we read to partners.  After we read to partners we wrote to self.  Then the bell rang for little recess and everybody got their snacks.  We had math with Mr. Cormier.  The bell rang to go outside and I had guitar club.  Then we ate lunch.  After we had lunch we went to JMH for gym.  At JMH we played hockey.  We came back Ryan gave both classes popcycles. Then we went down to the computer lab to work on our heritage fair projects.  I was all done so I played on the computer and made pictures in paint!  Right now Canada is winning 1-0 at olympic hockey!   Remember Monday we are going sliding and it is crazy hat day for $1.  TTFN

SNOW FUN by MikeyToday we started out the day by combiening all of the grade 3's in one room, except for a few who got some one on one help with their heritage fair project.  We did the normal morning routine for 3M.  We did a spelling word (hemisphere) and a Try to Solve.  Todays small problem was "I forgot my helmet".  What are some of the ways people tried to solve this problem.  We watched a quick biography on a boxer, do you remember his name?  He could float like a butterfly and sting like a bee.  Just before we could start our math Mrs. Hache's grade 2 students came in and did a presentation on the titanic.   We got ready for recess early and went skating!   Thank you to all the parent volunteers who show up to help tie skates!  It makes life so much easier and skating so much more enjoyable!  When we got back we went straight outside and played on this beautiful day.  We had hot lunch (again with lots of wonderful volunteers).  After Lunch we got ready and went to JMH for PE and played floor hockey.  When we got back we went to the computer lab to put some finishing touches on our Heritage fair projects, and those who were finished got some free time to play on the internet!  We came back upstairs and stuffed our mouths with left over cinnamon hearts from yesterday, spit half of them in the garbage because they were too hot, and packed up for home!  Check the agendas tonight!  A note went home, our very  own Ryan Godfrey will be principal of the day tomorrow and he has some crazy rules!  I hope I dont fall asleep by lunch because teachers dont get coffee tomorrow!!!!!!!!  I better get to bed early!   See you tomorrow.

Valentines Minions by MitchellToday we had an unusual day in order that we can try and finish up all of our heritage fair projects this week!  All of the students in grade 3 came into my room so that Miss Gallant could pull out students in small groups to finish up their heritage fair projects!  I did the Language Arts and the Math!   In Language Arts we worked on our write to self with a drill called "if you think it, ink it!"  Most students filled up a full page with writing in just five minutes!  In Math we continued work out of the text book.   We worked on making a bar graph.  After lunch we went up to JMH for Tally Tuesday in PE.  When we came back we had Mr. Murphy (after I shot a little video of Ryan).   It is olympic time!  Do you remember what Mr. Murphy spoke to us about?  When Mr. Murphy finished up, there was only one thing that was on everyones mind.... VALENTINES!!!   We had a party, gave out valentines and ate candy!  It was very awesome!  See you tomorrow my little minions!
