2014_01_14 Tuesday

New Projector by JacobToday the day started off GREAT! Everyone was on task, wrote their agenda's, set up their page for morning activitities and got their number of the day quiz finished and submitted! We worked on solving the problem of a loud dog! Do you remember any of the solutions? Even silly and strange answers can be used! In math we reviewed rounding and the difference between estimating and mental math. Estimating is close, but not exact, where mental math is done in your head to find an exact number! When we were doing our math we got our new projector installed, its hard to compete with that! We worked through the tiny (but very necessary) distraction and finished our math. After recess we had language arts with Miss Gallant. Check out her teacher page today to see what we did! At lunch today we got outside! Finally! It was very mild and very fun! Make sure you bring your ski pants. In PE today we went up to JMH. We had a little problem coming into the gym too excited, but Im confident tomorrow will be better! When we got back Mr. Murphy talked to the grade 3 about different things that make us feel different ways. What makes you scared? Was it the same for everyone? In science we reviewed Phase 1 of the scientific method and worked on invisible forces. Can you cut the north pole off a magnet? (Think of my slice of bread story, it always has two sides no matter how you slice it.) When it comes to North and South poles sometimes they attract and sometimes they repel. Do you remember what we said about opposites to help us remember? We finished off the day with our closing activities. Get lots of sleep tonight and I will see you tomorrow!

2014_01_10 Friday

Strange Animal by KaitlinA great Friday! We started off the day with a double math class. Everyone was able to get all of their boardwork and textbook work for the week caught up and checked! Some people even had time to play a game of chess as a responsible choice! After recess we had a double language arts class for the day. Check out Miss Gallants teacher page to see what we did! After lunch we went to JMH for PE. When we got back we went to health with Miss Gallant and talked about healthy eating and the canada food guide. After health we had science. Mr. Cormier came in to help out and we worked in groups to answer questions about magnets! Do magnets attract to all metals? Whats the difference between attract and repel? Hope everyone has a great weekend!

2014_01_09 Thursday

Class Selfie by GavinToday we started out with our solving a problem for zipper that got stuck. Do you remember some of the ways we tried to solve it? We read about how George ruined his lemonade business and doodled a koala bear. In math we talked about 3 digit subtraction and the importance of using a place value chart. In language arts we worked on persuasive writing and focused on using the class word wall. After lunch we went to JMH for gym and played some basketball skills games with Miss McFarlene. When we got back to IBP we went to the library and Mrs. Weeks helped us exchange our books. We finished off the day in Art learning about a famous painting. Do you remember what it was called, and what was special about the way it was painted? Tomorrow is Friday already! Get lots of sleep and I will see you bright and early!

2014_01_08 Wednesday

2023 Athlete of the Year by Georgia The week is half done! The number of the day today was 76! Do you remember why? We started off our morning with our agenda's, setting up our page for LA, and finishing up our number of the day sheet. We did a new activity in the morning call "Solve this Problem" where we think of solutions to a "Small Problem". Todays small problem was, I cant find my shoe. How did you solve that problem? Did your answers sound like a story? We also read about a boy who was selling Gormet Lemonade! Gormet makes it sound fancy! We then went ot language arts with Miss Gallant. After LA we had an indoor recess. When recess was over we started on math right away. We went over our subtracting algorithm, did our boardwork, and worked out of the textbook. It was very cold again today at lunch so we stayed in and found quiet activities to do. Everyone was very excited for lunch to end so we could jump on the bus with Miss McFarlene and go to gym at JMH! We had a great time playing basketball! When we came back we had health with Miss Gallant. We went over some of the cool things we would do in 2014 and maybe making some resolutions. Did you make a resolution for this year? After health we went to the computer room. We will be having one more bake sale in February, so we learned how to make posters in Microsoft Word. I cant wait to post them when we are done! Stay tuned. Only two more days and this week is over! WOW! Get lots of rest and I will see you tomorrow.

2014_01_07 Tuesday

Paying Attention by TriciaOur first Day back for 2014! We were a little rusty in some of the routines, but it was a great day over all. We started the day with our new morning activities. We had a spelling word (subtraction) and we made a few small problems with a pencil. In math we reviewed adding and subtracting. Indoor recess was different because there was NO choir! Everyone stayed in the classrooms and played. After recess we had language arts with Miss Gallant. We went over our new spelling words, looked at the new homework sentences, reviewed our word wall, and did our first cursive writing sheet! It was a bit too cold to go outside at lunch so we stayed in to play. After lunch we went to JMH for our first gym class at the high shcool. What did you think of the gym? Who taught you? When we came back we had science with Mr. Cormier. We finished off the day with our book of gratitude and a draw sheet for the number of the day, 75. What does that mean, 75 is the number of the day? 2014_01_07 Grade 3 News Letter

Welcome back to our grade 3 newsletter. It is now 2014, and lots happened over the holidays. Lillian got lots of cool clothes and an iPad mini for Christmas! Kaitlin got a Flutter-by Fairy for Christmas and her mom is worried she will break something in the house. Mikey had his first New Year’s countdown in Canada! He never went to sleep until 1:40 that night! Thomas got a giant jet from his mom and dad and got to spend time in a hotel for his cousin’s birthday. Tricia got the American Doll SAGE for Christmas. She has been asking for that for a long time! Gavin and Georgia had to wait to open their presents on Christmas because their grandmother was stuck in her driveway. Ryan has been playing with his Sky-lander swap force for the Xbox and NHL 14! Mitchell got NHL 14 and a new case for his iPad! Jacob is sleepy because he has been playing with his purple per-plex-ous ball all day long.

2013_12_20 Friday

Thoughts of Under the Tree by ThomasWhen I came in the building this morning you could feel the energy! It was the last day of school before Christmas and it was PJ day! To say we were excited would be a huge understatement! Once OCanada started order was returned. We all went to Miss Gallants room to make Christmas themed bags with felt fronts. Some of us made snowmen, some elves, and some gingerbread men. They looked great. That took us all the way to recess. After recess we painted wooden reindeer! They turned out great! We had an indoor lunch because it was almost -20 on the playground with the windchill. After lunch we bundled up in our skipants and walked down to the united church for our end of month assembly. We handed out some well deserved awards and shared some milk and cookies! We walked back up and found all the Christmas bags we made in the morning with a little treat in them! The teachers also found lots of treats from the students. Thank you so much everyone for the wonderful gifts! After we opened our treats and had another quick snack, we cleaned up our desks and the classroom. Then it was time to go home! The day flew by! Everyone have a wonderful break, thank you again for the gifts, MERRY CHRISTMAS, and I will see everyone in 2014

2013_12_19 Thursday

Selfie #5 by LillianToday we started out the day working on the Secrets of Nimh. We used a Venn Diagram, which is made out of two circles. Do you remeber how we filled it out? We had an early recess because the Choir had to get a snack before they left for the Mount to perform. I heard they did an amazing job and we can be very proud! While the choir was gone the grade 2's and 3's that were left behind went to the Computer lab with Mrs. Hill and I to do work on the smartboard. We used a program called extreme collaboration. Do you remember how it worked? When the choir came back they had a small pizza party at lunch! What a great way to celebrate all their hard work. It was a big deal for these kids to give up so many recess's to sit and practice singing! Their hard work paid off! After lunch we had Mr. Trevors for PE and Mr. Murphy for guidance. Do you remember what we talked about? In computer we worked on making a Christmas thank you letter. It had to be copied from this teacher page, pasted in word, the font size changed and a christmas border added. We then saved it on our personal H drives and emailed them to the teacher to be printed. Remember tomorrow is PJ day and we are having our assembly at the church basement down the road at 12:30. It might be cold in PJ's outside so make sure you wear your ski pants! Get lots of rest and I will see you in the morning!
