Friday is Show and Tell for grade 2! You are welcome to bring any electronics or toys, there are some allergies so no pets. Please remember we are not responsible for lost, broken, or stolen items, so please choose an item you are comfortable taking a risk with. Students will be asked to speak about their item for up to 90 seconds. You may want to practice your presentation with your item ahead of time. Good luck and I'm excited to see what you bring on Friday!
Today was our first day of 2016! The energy was very thick first thing in the morning as everyone was excited to tell about their holidays! We started off the day with a sharing circle and we went around twice! With everyone able to share we started our regular routine. Our spelling word today was "dimensions" (like Lego Dimensions, which I just learned about). Our "First, " part of a story was for "How to dress for the Cold", and we doodled an ice cream cone. In Math, we reviewed making math sentences for a fact family and placing those numbers on a tree. After recess we had Language Arts with Mrs. Hill. We worked on a small moment from our vacation. We worked on our conventions and details. After an indoor lunch today we had computer. We worked in paint, adding text, and changing the size of that text. In PE today we learned how to be a candle! I cant do it, can you? After PE we took a new banner picture and played tunnel tag. We finished off the day watching a Jib Jab, got our agenda's signed, and got ready for home! It is VERY cold outside! Please Dress for the cold, get lots of sleep, and I will see you tomorrow!
Today was the last day of school for 2015! We started out the day with lots of energy! We settled into our regular routine in 2M and our spelling word was "proposition", did you get the "shon" sound? Our story was for "How to Be a Good Loser", and our doodle was a Christmas Tree. In language arts with Mrs. Hill we read several christmas books and worked on finishing our homemade Christmas cards. After recess we were going to have math, but we still had tons of energy so we had a gym class in the classroom. We did 3 different dances. We did a polka, a Santa Dance, and a One Direction Dance. After the dancing we got on the floor and practiced our breathing. We did a round of read to self or write to self. Then it was time for lunch. After lunch we had an assembly. We handed out some awards and had our IBP Mini-Marshmallow Challenge. We had lots of participants, lots of fun, and I was very proud of how our class handled not winning the challenge! We had just enough time to get a card from Mrs. MacKenzie and I, pack our bags, and the bell rang to go home! Have a safe and happy holiday, and we will see you all next year, in 2016.
Our last week of school for 2015! Our day started out with our regular routine. Our spelling word was "marshmallow", our story was for "How to dress for the snow" and we doodled a duck. After we did our morning routine we had a different math class. We used the trebuchet to measure how far we could fire a bean bag in the classroom. We measured the distance by counting the floor tiles. How many floor tile units did you fire your bean bag? After recess we had language arts with Mrs. Hill. We did work work and looked at Christmas Cards. Cards are a kind of writing we see all the time! Besides Christmas Cards and Birthday Cards when have you ever gotten a card? After lunch one of the students handed out some candy canes, we watched a short video on Rudolf as we ate our Candy Cane. We put some memo's in our bag and talked about how we treat guests. We also had a guest in gym today. Miss Sellars took over for Mrs. Hache. What games did you play in gym? We did earn a reward of 15minutes in the computer lab, but it was being used before we got there. After a quick vote the students opted for 10 minutes with the toys instead of waiting until tomorrow for the computer room. Many of our choir member will be meeting tonight at 6:00 at St. Michaels to perform. Tomorrow our assembly has been moved to after lunch at 12:30. I cant wait to see who can shoot a mini-marshmallow the furthest! Get lots of rest and I will see you tomorrow for our last school day of 2015!
Everyone who came today had ski-pants, hats, and mitts! I hope you had fun on your snowday! We started off today a little slow as the roads were a bit tricky and over half the class was a few minutes late arriving. We did our regular routine and the others caught up as they arrived. Our spelling word was "blizzard" and our story was for "How to Spend a Snow Day". We doodled a dog and then we went to language arts with Mrs. Hill. We worked on our alphabet books and wrote about our storm day. After recess we had math. We worked on making a triangle (which looked like a math tree) to show the relationship between three numbers. We used that tree to write 4 math sentences. Can you make a tree for 3+2=5? After lunch we went to the computer lab. We practiced our interenet safety rules and played some fun games. Then we had PE in the classroom with Mrs. Hache. The dective game was a favorite of this class. We finished off the day doing our book of gratitude, and I let everyone sign their own agenda. Christmas Concert Day! It flew by! We started off the day with some excitement about our Christmas decorated door, it is pretty cool! We were all dressed up so nicely that I did snap a new picture for our web page banner. Then we talked to my brother in Beijing on Skype. He said he hasn't had any snow days, but he has had one day off school because of the air quality index (or pollution). Do you remember what that means? We did our regular routine, our spelling word was "Activity" and our story was for "How to make a Skype Call". We doodled a sun and clouds. Then we scored our pages and put our sheets in our books before going to Mrs. Hill's room. We practiced our songs, read, watched a video on the zoo, and worked on our Christmas Alphabet books. Mrs Hill looked after all of the grade 2's while I took lots of pictures at the concert. Check out the gallery on the main page. After lunch we went to the computer lab and had a late PE because the gym was being cleaned from the concert. Everyone gave themselves a happy face in their agenda and we called it a day! This morning I we had a supply teacher as I had an appointment. I was in for a little bit and did some recording to make a little video to show our friends in Colorado a peek inside our school! Check it out below!
When I came back in the afternoon we had library and changed our books for the last time this year (2015). We had PE in the classroom (because of the shopping party) and Ms. Tucker had some cool Star Wars Yoga for us to do! We finished off the day watching our video, doing our book of gratitude, and getting our agenda's signed. Get lots of sleep and I will see you tomorrow!
