It was an awesome day! We did the morning announcements in the classroom before the bell even rang. Thank you to all the students in the class for being so cooperative! I promise everyone who signed up will get a chance to do the announcements over the next few days. Once our day got started we went right into our routine. Our spelling word was "locomotion" and our "First," was for a story called "How to be a Good Listener". We doodled an elephant. We wrote a listening quiz in math. The questions were in a different format, 7+__=10. What did you score on your quiz? We also did 3 minute drill with flash cards with a partner. We looked at some mental math strategies for doubles, doubles +1, and friends of ten. We worked on some math addition and subtraction sheets just before recess. After recess we had language arts with Mrs. Hill. We did some word work with a focus on capitalization. Where do we use capital letters? We also did a read-a-loud and some daily 5 guided reading groups. After lunch we had guidance with Mrs. MacKenzie. She talked to us about whole body listening! I know we did a great job because she gave us a happy face check! In PE we worked on some basketball skills. Mrs. Hache gave the class another happy face check! I think that means we are getting good at listening! After PE the class earned 10 minute free time, so we finished up a bit early before getting ready to go home. Memo's went home today. There will be a home and school meeting tomorrow night, and anyone interested in participating in the end of month STEM balloon car challenge please bring in a signed permission slip to receive a kit. Get lots of sleep tonight, dress warm, and I will see you in the morning!

It looks like we are in for a clear, but cold week!  Make sure you dress warm everyday.  Our spelling word today was "commotion".  How many syllables does "commotion" have?  Our "First, " story was for "How to Quiet a Classroom".  We doodled an elephant.  In language arts today we read from our Fudge book and talked about Ruby Bridges.  Do you remember who she was?  What was special about her? After recess we had math.  We did a listening quiz, we did flashcard practice (math with a friend), and we did some math sheets for addition and subtraction.  We also worked on a litte review for even and odd numbers.  After lunch we had PE with Mrs. Hache and worked on some basketball skills.  Then we had art with Mrs. Hill where we started work on our polar bear cub with chalk and pastels.  We finished off the day talking about Martin Luther King.  We ran out of time for our book of gratitude and packed up to go home.  Dress warm and get lots of rest and I will see you tomorrow!

Friday already!  Another week has blown past!  We started today with our regular daily routine.  Our spelling word was "motion" and our "First" was for "How to drive a car".  Students gave a sentence like "First, you need a drivers licence".  The topic was the drivers licence, so the next two detail sentences were about the drivers licence.   "Make sure you carry your licence with you.  If you dont have a drivers licence you will have to go to drivers school."  We did our last doodle of a wolf, next week we will start a new doodle!  After our opening activities we had language arts with Mrs. Hill.  I dont know what you did, but I saw HUGE boxes of smarties!  What did you do?  After recess we had Make Something that does Something. Today we worked to build cubes (using math nets).  Some teams worked in assembly lines, some worked individually.  Which method did your team use?  After lunch we went over some internet safety rules and videos before PE class.  It was game Friday, and Mrs. Hache said it was the best PE class we've had all year!  Everyone got along and worked hard!  We ended our day with a book of gratitude entry, we got our agenda's signed, we played a game to see who could inflate a huge wind tube the fastest, we got ready for home, and had a weekly draw.  Gabe won, and took the wind tube bag!  Hope everyone has a safe and fun weekend.  Get lots of sleep, and I will see you on Monday!

Today was a great day! Especially considering we had a snowday yesterday and that can really throw everyone off. We started the day with our regular routine. Our spelling word was "detention" and our story was for "How to make a potion". We doodled a wolf again, and tomorrow will be our last day with the wolf. After our doodle we took a few minutes to make a potion, and we me made clear goo-worms! I wasnt even sure our potion worked until someone decided to reach in and pull all the worms out! After our potion fun we started with math. In math today we had a listening quiz on word families, we did "math with a friend", practicing flash card adding facts, and we also did "math by myself" with a single digit adding and a single digit subtracting sheet. After recess we had language arts. In language arts we did some word work. We did a making words activity. We also did our daily five activities. Today at lunch we had BP for hot lunch (since it was cancelled yesterday). Thank you to all the volunteers who help make it run so smoothly. After lunch we went to the library and changed our books for the week. Library is every Thursday, dont forget to bring back your book. In PE we did gymnastics! After PE we looked at our book of gratitude, wrote in them, signed the agenda's, and got ready for home. Remember to dress warm, get lots of sleep, and I will see you tomorrow!

Another day that flew by in our classroom! We started off the day with Mrs. Hache doing our regular morning routine! She likes to drop in occassionally and see how everyone is doing. She was very impressed with the students who had their jobs done and were in the green zone to learn! What zone were you in? Our spelling word was "education" and our "First" was for a story called "How to avoid detention". We took another attempt to doodle a wolf! How did yours come out? In math we started off the class with a 3 min math listening quiz. We did a sheet of 30 single digit addition, and we worked on our math with friend using flash cards to review our facts from 0-20. After recess we had language arts with Mrs. Hill. We did a read aloud, daily five, and worked on some writing. At lunch we stayed inside because it was too cold to go out. We also had some fun making our classroom carpet fly! Check out our banner at the top of the page if you think we're making it up. After lunch Mrs. MacKenzie came in for guidance and talked about stress and tension.  We watched some videos and did some activities related to stress.  In PE with Mrs. Hache we did some gymnastics.  She was very impressed with how well our head stands are coming along!  After PE the students were quick to remind me that they had won a game in the gym because they had more happy faces than sad faces.  We played a quick game of soccer, did some kicks, and pretended we were train tracks for the soccer ball.  Did I mention the soccer ball is almost as big as the students?  We came back upstairs and cleaned our desks, signed our own agenda's, and got ready for home.  If the storm passes us and there is school tomorrow we will be skating at the LBA at 10:30.  We should arrive at the LBA at about 10:15, and any help with skates and helmets would be greatly appreciated!  If there is a school cancelation then skating is also cancelled until next month as the LBA is booked well in advance daily throughout the winter.  Get lots of sleep, dress warm, and I will see you tomorrow!

We worked on 8 holds.  Can you name all 8.  We also tried a new hold called the teddybear stand.  After PE we had Art with Ms. Hill where we experimented with blending paints.  I didnt get to do our book of gratitute, so we packed up and went home.  Get lots of sleep and dress warm!  I will see you in the morning.

Today was Show and Tell day, so the energy was high from the first second I came in the door!  We started out doing our presentations, there were frozen and americian girl dolls, star wars - everything, a wrestling belt (which I almost won), disco balls, lego, dinosaurs, a guitar, a magic act and more!  We did about half of the items before we left for language arts.  In language arts with Mrs. Hill we did a read-a-loud, a round of daily five, and a sight word game.  After recess we had Make something that does something.  Each team was given money to buy supplies to build a paper house!  How did your house turn out?  After lunch we finished up our Show and Tell presentations.  Then we went to PE with Mrs. Hache.  It was game Friday.  Mrs Hache gave the students a happy face for their behavior, which earned our end of day reward!  Instead of our book of gratitude we had free time with our show and tell items and our recess toys.  We packed the January calendar in our agenda's and packed up for the day.  Have a great weekend and I will see you next week!

What a fun day today in Grade 2!   We started off the day with our regular routine.  Our spelling word was "nation" and our "First" was for "how to make a jib-jab".  We did a doodle of an ice cream cone again, they are looking great with all this practice!  In Math we worked on our fact families.  We did a quick listening math quiz, 3 minute card drill with a friend, two math worksheets, and a quick smartboard review.  I hope tomorrow you remember what a place value chart is called!  After recess we had Language Arts with Mrs. Hill.  We worked on our daily five activities, and looked up some pictures of the West Edmonton Mall.  Who went to that mall?  After lunch we had library and got new books for the next week.  Then we had PE with Mrs. Hache where we worked on our gymnastics moves.  Trust me, those moves are a lot harder than they look!  I wont be trying those again!  We finished off our day with a talk about show and tell, we did our book of gratitude, got our agenda's signed and went home.  Remember, tomorrow is Show and Tell, bring something you can talk about and something that wont crush you if it gets lost, broke, or stolen.  That almost never happens, but it does happen enough that I need to say it.  Get lots of sleep and I will see you in the morning!

We seem to be back into the swing of things already!  We started off the day with our regular routine.  Our spelling word was "potion", and our "First," was for a story "How to Make a Snowman".  What is my topic if I start out my paragraph with "First, you need to have the right kind of snow."  What will my two detail sentence be about?  Can you make two detail sentences about "the right kind of snow"? (Make sure, If you, the best).  This week we are doodling a cone of ice cream.  Everyday our drawings are getting better and better!  Before language arts we watched a jib jab with some of the students faces.  I ended up getting a snowball in the face in the movie!  How rude!  In language arts with Mrs Hill we worked on our small moments peice of writing, read from our chapter book, and worked on daily 5 activities (word work, read to self, write to self, listen to reading, buddy reading).  After a nice outdoor lunch we had hot lunch.  I love pizza!  We skipped computer today and talked about why "Feet Never Touch Anyones Face".  We also baked some cookies with my secret recipe before gym.  In Gym with Mrs. Hache worked on some gymnastics moves.  After PE we ate our cookies with a dab of ice cream.  We wrote in our book of gratitude and packed up to go home.  Get lots of rest, dress warm and I will see you in the morning!
