Hello everyone!  It was another beautiful day outside today!  We can not believe that it is almost November and the weather is still great! It is quite windy though so we still have to wear our coats outside, ( and maybe a hat as well).  We are still learnig all the components of Read to Someone.  Today we learned how to pick our partner properly.  Girls and boys, tell your family what do we do if someone asks us to be our partner? In Math class we tried a skip sounting game.  Do not forget that it is Hot Lunch day tomorrow and the Home and School will be serving us Ed Sub's. Check homework folders for the message that went home today rearding some important reminders .  Have a great night all!  See you in the morning boys and girls!

Hello everyone.  What a windy day it is out there!  We had a special guest come in today to see how Miss Gallant is doing with her teaching skills.  Her name was Mrs. Jonas.  We were all very well behaved and Miss Gallant did well also!  Today in Language Arts we worked on building muscle in our stories and we als learned three different ways you can Read to Someone.  Boys and girls, do you remember the three ways you can read to someone? (Check for Understanding, I read You read and, Read two different books).  Talk to your family about the three ways. We made masks in Art class today they were awesome! Stay tuned for a picture of all us wearing our masks!  Have a good night girls and boys, get lots of sleep!

Remember to wear green tomorrow for the Heritage Fair at Croft.  In math we worked on our counting on strategy, digits, and a bit on place value (tens value and ones value).   In language arts we worked on adding details to our sentences and stories (adding some muscle)!   In music we started practicing our songs for remembrance day.  We started a new chapter book, Cabin Creek Mysteries : The secret of the Robbers Cave.  Do you remember how the boys got to Lost Island and who they brought with them?  See you tomorrow for our Heritage Fair Adventure!  I'm going to wear a warm hat so my head doesn't cold!

A very busy day for my first day back.  The Interim reports are in the blue folders.  Our first homework sheet for October is in the green books.  In math today we took our first look at a place value chart and explored the difference between a digit and number.  All numbers are made up of digits.  Do remember how many digits there are? (Look at a phone if your having trouble).  In language arts we worked on our buddy reading and reviewed Narratives and Biographies.  Remember Friday is the Heritage Fair, so our spelling test will be on Monday.  Have a great night and get lots of sleep.

Hello everyone. I seem to be having some trouble adding my notes to the website but, I will continue to try!  Mr. McCallum unexpectedly got called away this week so, Miss Ried and Miss Gallant are holding down the fort.  Everything is going great.  Yesterday we finished up our unit on patterns in Math and today Miss Reiad started a lesson on estimating.  We are almost finished our novel, The Mouse and the Motorcycle. Ralph is on a great chase to find his motorcycle. Will he find it? Today was National Walk to School Day and after recess we walked around the track for twenty minutes. Our school fundraiser went home yesterday.  We are trying to raise money for our rock climbing equipment for the playground. Tomorrow we are having hot lunch from Pizza Delight and we are also having a fire prevention assembly in the gym at 9:00am to 10:00pm. Have a great night boys and girls!

Wow! What a hot day today! Everyone in the class was really warm because of the great weather we are having!  We got our pictures taken today and thankfully we all managed to bring our smiles :) . Math class today started out with a game of Around the World,  multiple choice questions on patterns, and then we worked very hard on an increasing patterns work sheet.  Tomorrow we are going to get 10 out of 10 on our pattern questions so we can beat Mrs. Haché's class!  In Language Arts class we are continuing to read the Mouse and the Motorcycle.  Do you remember what happened in chapter 9? We also worked on our stamina for our write to self lesson.  Our special guest came today during Phys Ed. We learned how to do the polka dance.  Boys and girls, show your parents what the ballroom pose looks like and how to do the polka dance step! Have a great afternoon!

Hello everyone, today we had a long day as it was raining outside and we did not get a chance to go outside and burn off some of our energy! We hope it does not rain tomorrow.  Today in math class we worked on increasing patterns and did ten multiple choice questions together on the smart board.  In language arts classwe learned about comprehension. Do you remember what comprehension is? (it means checking for understanding). We also read another chapter in our book The Mouse and the Motorcycle. Do you think he and Keith will ever find the motorcycle again?  Tomorrow is going to be a very busy day.  We have a special guest coming to our class tomorrow and it is picture day, (don't forget your smiles!) It is also hot lunch tomorrow.  We will be having Ed Sub's turkey sandwiches. See you tomorrow!

Good day everyone. Well, today we had a pretty good day. We had three rounds of Daily 5 today and we are now up to 14 minutes of Read to Self and we are now working very hard to build our stamina on our writing skills.  Miss Gallant taught us a lot of different ways that we can work on our writng.  We can write a letter or a narritive story, (what are the five parts of a narritive again?) We can also wirte our opinion of something. An example would be, I like the book The Mouse and the Motorcycle because...Or we could also write out a list, that is also a form of writng.  We will continue to work on this tomorrow.    Mr. McCallum also continued to teach the students about patterns. Today we reviewed our patterns and learned about our first chess piece, the knight. We have a spelling test tomorrow.  Books went home today for our borrow a book program.  The children are responsible for changing their books each morning. The books you will find in your childs bag are two levels back from thier June level.  This is common procedure in all grades 1 to 3 to allow the child to read the book without frustration.

Another busy day. I always tell the students that I love making mistakes because its how we learn.  I made a big mistake today when I was trying to update our green homework books and ended up making a royal mess of them all... so no calendar work tonight.  SORRY!! Even the teacher makes mistakes.  In math today we reviewed Attributes, repeating and increasing patterns, and talked about our "Counting on" strategy on our number lines for when we play " Around the World" with flash cards.   We reviewed the 5 parts of a narrative in Language Arts, and Mr. Lange took us on a virtual tour of the worlds largest pillow fight!  Our borrow a book program starts tomorrow night so please check the book bags tomorrow for leveled reading books (I'll talk about that more in Thursday's Agenda Note).  ON A SIDE NOTE - Despite today being an overall very good day, unfortunately I had a couple of upset students at the end of the day today.  Even though we are still learning the classroom routines many of us are finding it difficult to distinguish between finishing our work and playing, and finishing our work and choosing a responsible choice.   It is now the third week of school and we have talked about responsible choices and not making noise when others are working or when the teacher is talking.  Since our transitions wasted so much time today we will have to practice for the first 5 minutes of recess tomorrow.  For those who are upset, remember even if you understand you need to give a friendly reminder to a classmate!  We win as a team!

Hello everyone! Today we learned about attributes in math class.  What is an attribute? (we decided it is just a fancy math word to describe things.) An example would be, big square, small square.  Ralph was rescued today from the trash can.  Do you remember who rescued him? We also learn about narrative stories.  What are the five parts of a narrative story? (Characters, Setting, Event, Problem, Solution). Phys Ed. class was so fun today.  We learned how to do many different things with hula hoops. Grade 2 is a very busy year and we are still learing lots of new systems.  Please remember to bring back your homework folders eveyday, and look for us to be starting our borrow a book program very soon.

Hello everyone, happy Monday. We had a great today. Mr. McCallum went on Skype today and talked to his brother Chris who lives all the way over in Beijing, China!!! It was amazing. He picked up his computer and showed us his school.  Chris even showed us the gym which was bigger than some of our houses! We also got to ask him a few questions. Do you remember how to say hello in Chinese? Mr. McCallum talked about increasing patterns or growing patterns today.  They are a little bit difficult to understand so we will continue to work on them. We also continued to read The Mouse and the Motorcycle.  We are on chapter 4. We dicussed how to make connections when we are reading. There are still some parents who have not sent in the $12 student fee required here at Ian Baillie.  If you have not sent it in please do so as soon as possible.  Spelling tests went home today to be signed as well as a new list. Do you remember what we did in art class today?

Hello everyone, happy Thursday! Today we had show and tell.  It was an exciting morning with lots of interesting things to see.  We had a parrot, dogs, kittens, some cool toys, homemade crafts, hockey cards, even an I Pad! Mr. McCallum read a story Clara and the Bossy today and showed the class how we can make connections to the stories we read. Ask your child if they made a connection to the story. There will be a spelling test tomorrow on the list words from your green homework folder. Don't forget to get lots of rest tonight and we will see you in the morning!
