The internet was out for a little bit at Ian Baillie for the last two days, so I guess yesterday's post didn't go up.  Sorry!  Oh well, the dissappointment is over.  Today we read another "day" in our chapter book "Diary of a Wimpy Kid".  Do you remember when it is a good time for Greg to get his father upset, and when its a BAD time for Greg to get his father upset?  I love how some of the writing in our class is starting to have stick people with speech bubbles, just like our chapter book.  In Math we worked on drawing lines using a ruler (dont forget to start at the zero line), we talked about ordering, and reviewed the names of the months.  In both writing classes students worked on the steps of our "How to " stories.  We have lots of work to get done tomorrow, so get lots of sleep!  -Mr. McCallum

Our first day back after a long weekend went very well.  We read another day in our chapter book "Diary of a Wimpy Kid".  In Language Arts Mrs. Hache worked on procedural writing and did another round of the daily five.  Mrs. Hache will be working in the office for Mrs. McCarthy for the next few days, and Miss Gallant will be working in her room!   In math we continued to work on measurement.  We used snap cube units to measure items in our classroom.  Are snap cubes a standard, or non-standard unit of measurement?  In art today we started working on the year book covers.  Get lots of sleep and I will see you in the morning!

Today was the second day we switched classes.  Mrs. Hache will be teaching language arts to both grade 2 classes until the end of the year, and Mr. McCallum will be teaching them math.  In math we talked about "units" (things that are all the same) "standard" (things that most people in the world know and use) and standard and non-standard types of measurement. Report cards went home today.  There is no school on Thursday or Friday this week, the book fair will close Thursday night at 7:30.  Get lots of sleep for our assembly tomorrow and the last school day of the week.  See you in the morning!

What a good day today.  We didnt even have a strike on the board when I looked at the end of the day.  We read another chapter in Robin Hood, and meet a new character who was not Little at all!  Do you remember who he was?  In writing we wrote about how to use Floride.  We used all 3 parts of the the How to Story (Introduction, Body, & Closing).  In gym we started to learn a square dance!  We still need lots of work.  There will be a spelling test on Friday, and show and tell on Friday (the sheets are found at: http://ianbaillie.nbed.nb.ca/,sites/ianbaillied7.nbed.nb.ca/files/feeds/...).  I posted the words earlier this week.  Miss Gallant will be in for me tomorrow!  Best behavior and get lots of sleep!

We started the day with Fast For Word (our last week).  After Recess we did some writing, introduced "closing" as part of a "how to story".  The closing has 3 parts, 1)exit out 2) Opinion 3) Question.  Can you remember the names of the 3 parts of a story? (Remember we dont say beginning, middle, and end in grade 2.)  At lunch time floor hockey Nunavut beat out Saskatchewan because Sask. didn't have enough players.  After Lunch Mr. Lange came in, he found our class a bit "wild" today.  Before we went to gym we took our folders and agenda's and packed up our spelling tests.  We ended up getting 2 full strikes because it took so long for the class to get it done and listen to the teacher!   We ended up missing most of gym class, before ending the day with Mrs. MacIssac to do writing.  Luckily, when I was late coming back from gym and found the entire class sitting properly and quietly in their seats waiting for me!  How could I not erase a strike?  Stay tuned for our next morning letter, and remember taht tomorrow is a new day.  Make sure you get lots of sleep tonight and I will see you in the morning!

Today was the first day of spring.  We did a morning letter today for the first time in a long time, I will be checking my mail basket tomorrow for more news from our class.  We worked on the parts of a "How to" story.  Do you remember the topic we have been working on?  We  are in our last week of Fast For Word.  In phys.ed we worked with hula hoops, and Mr. Lange did a french module today.  In art we worked on some folding, which we will try and re-visit again this week.  I forgot to send home the spelling sheet, but the list is below.  Get to bed early and get lots of sleep, and I will see you in the morning!   are                                  what                                        am                                  ten       they                                pen     when                               Ben    ask                                 men

Happy Saint Patricks day!  In Math today we quickly reviewed the parts of saying the date from a calendar, and the order that goes it most often.  If it has an order that most people in the world use ... what would we call that in math? (Standard form).  In writing we talked about how math has special words and so does writing.  So instead of beginning, middle, and end, we use introduction, body, and closing.  We also went over a new way to help us with our hooks (or introduction).   We use a question, opinion, and lead in!  We also started our stories for tomorrow, guess why I might not be looking forward to writing tomorrow!  Dont forget we have a spelling test first thing in the morning!  The words were posted earlier this week.  Get lots of sleep and I will see you tomorrow!

Hello everyone! Miss Gallant was here today! She loves coming back to see all of the boys and girls here in Mr. M's class! We had a great day starting out with our Daily five activities and then we finished the last chapter of Junie B. Jones and a Little Monkey Business.  That Junie B. is one silly little girl. Today in Math we discussed how to read a calendar. A great home connection would be to make a weekly calendar and have your child identify the DAY of the week as well as the DATE. You could also talk about your families weekly schedule and ask what the date of different events are, what the date will be tomorrow and what was the date yesterday. We had a great day and Miss Gallant hopes she can come back again soon to teach us!!

We started out today with our read and write to self.  Why did Mr. McCallum say he liked to write more than read?  We had another great day in Fast For Word.  In our chapter book Junie B learned something that didnt make her very happy, do you remember what it was?  In math we talked about 4 words: Units, Standard, Standard Units, and Non-Standard Units.  Do you remember what any of those mean?  Dont worry if you dont, we will be spending a lot more time on it.  Mr. Lange talked about nutrition, in gym we played a curling game, and Mrs. MacIssac worked on vocabulary in writing.   Miss Gallant will be in for me tomorrow as I have meetings.  Be on your best behavior.  Maybe I will see you in the morning! Get lots of sleep.

First day back from March break!  With the break and the time change, we were all a bit drowzy today, but still managed to be productive.  In the morning the choir recorded a song, we did our read and write to self, read another chapter in our book, and wrote about our March Break.  Do you remember why Junie B got in trouble at school today?  In our writing we talked about a detail sentence, do you remember what that means?  We had a great day in Fast For Word, and I think everyone in the class will make it to level two this year!  We learned a bit about curling in gym today, and did a poster contest with Mr. Lange and in Art.  There were two memo's that went home and the spelling list for this week.  The words are below.  Get lots of sleep and see you in the morning. cash trash flash crash slam gram swam clam every over

Another busy day.  CONGRATULATIONS to Emily and Spencer who won most creative dance K-2 in the District "So  You Think You Can Dance" Competition.  They have agreed to give a repeat performance during the Talent Show on Friday!   We only have one more chapter left in "How to Handle a Bully" .  Do you remember what happened that made Cameron hit the cones?  We had a problem today when someone accidently left a carton of milk in their desk (for a few days) and it spilled over, so we had to go and join Mrs. Hache's class while I got to clean the classroom up.  Mrs. Hache showed both classes some cool things on Volcano's and Earthquakes!  We went outside after Fast For Word today, and stayed out extra long to go sliding on the hill!  After a late hot lunch, Mr. Lange came in for a visit to talk about nutrition month.  Mrs. McCarthy showed up  to present some certificates.  By the time we got our agenda's written and our Memo's handed out it was time to go home.  The day blew by! Friday we have a spelling test (words below) and remember tomorrow is back-wards day!    See you tomorrow!   car far gar star hide ride slide too two here

This is shaping up to be a busy week!  Tomorrow Miss Gallant will be in for me in the morning, as I will be away, and again all day on Wednesday.  Wednesday don't forget to wear PINK for Anti-bullying day.  Thursday after school we will have family literacy night. Friday we will be having a Flag Day assembly which will be filmed.  Memo's went home today as well. Today we read another chapter from our book "How to deal with a bully".  Do remember the surprising ending to the chapter?  In wrting we went over "Hairy Feet Never Touch Anyone's Face".  What does that mean?   We had a great day in Fast For Word, and 2 more students moved to level 2 already!  Great work.  We didn't get outside for lunch, but the choir practiced for the assembly.  In gym we practiced our "Going to Alberta Dance", for the assembly, but it still needs some work.  In art we took our first stab at origami... sort of.... we made paper airplanes, but that was more than complicated enough for many of us.  Get a good night sleep and I will see you in the afternoon!  Best behavior for Miss Gallant in the morning.

Overall good day.  We are still working to refine our morning routine to fit our class.  I've now asked the students to keep the book their taking home each night in their blue folders.  We were having some trouble forgetting to get a book in the morning.  We also worked on writing today.  Do how we remember the organization part of our writing?  "Hairy Feet......"  I'll fill the rest in tomorrow.  Fast For Word is progressing nicely.  In the afternoon we worked on writing with Mrs. MacIssac, colored with Mrs. Somers (who was in for Mr. Lange), and started on our overhand throw in PE.  A very busy day indeed.  Remember to cheer on Robin and Christopher who are up for CUTE Awards tonight!  Doors open at 6:15 and the show starts at 7:00. Admission is free!  Good luck to the nominee's and I'll see you tomorrow!

Happy Valentines Day everyone!  We had a good day today.  We did some art first thing in the morning, making animals out of hearts and decorating envelopes to put our valentines in.  We had Fast For Word, and were starting to see some students switch to level two already, WOW!   We also had big news that Robin Ross and Christopher Curran in our class are both nominated for CUTE awards this year, congratulations.  We had a little party after lunch and passed out some treats, and Mr. Lange practiced for the flag day assembly tomorrow.   Remember to wear red and white for flag day!  Have a great night and I'll see you all in the morning.

A busy day today.  We "borrowed" Mrs. Hache's recipe for good writing and took a quick first look at the seven parts.  The one part we spent some time on was organization.  There were certain things that I look for organization on our page when we write, do you remember some of them? Fast For Word is going great and we even have some people who have moved to level 2 already!   CHOIR PEOPLE will be busy for the next few lunch hours (Thurs. Fri. and Mon.) because Flag Day is on Tuesday!  In Gym today we did a much better job of listening, and got to spend much more time playing our games (and much less on instruction adn waiting for people to freeze).  That might be because we had to stay in at recess for 5 minutes for the first time all year, and hopefully the last!  On a more positive note, our classroom looks great after our big desk clean out!  Get lots of sleep and see you Tomorrow!
