Reports went home today!  We had an interesting day today.  We were very busy cutting and coloring in Art making soldiers for Remembrance Day.  We have some interesting looking soldiers!  Instead of carrying a gun one soldier is carrying a kitty cat, and another is carrying a bear.  That should confuse the enemy.  We also gave the SENTEO's a try in math class today (ask your child about them).  The entire class liked them so we will try them again tomorrow!  We also started a new chapter book today called "Dawn of the Red Dragon".  We found out the magic wand has 3 rules... do you know them?

Big day tomorrow with report cards going home.  Parent teacher interviews have been scheduled and are posted as a PDF.  Please let me know if your time doesn't work and I will do my best to make alternative arrangements to meet with you.  There will be a spelling test this Thursday, and no school for students on Friday for parent teacher meetings.  There has been a few questions about H1N1 vaccinations, again all the forms are posted on this site under documents.  Pretty standard day today.  Miss Reid watched us do our around the world in math, I feel a challenge looming.  We had a guest teacher for music, that was exciting!  We also have a new seating arrangement, so your child might be sitting beside a new friend!  Check back later tonight for the Math Bonus Question of the week!

Tomorrows spelling test is for Week 5 NOT Week 6 which I posted.  Yep cant imagine one of my students losing a sheet or bringing home the wrong one.  How embarrassing!  Tomorrow our math bonus answers are due as well.  I hope to have the Parent Teacher Times that were requested posted soon.  Report cards go home next week!

I was out of the class for the morning and Mr. Duplessie taught.  I came back after recess and in math we introduced increasing patterns.  We added on to our guided writing story in the afternoon.  Killer the cheetah's story has had some revisions and close votes.  We finished off the day in the computer lab.  Report cards are coming up fast and I will be out Thursday to finish them up.  Friday will be red & white day, which means we will be just wearing red and white clothes... no costumes.

When I went to give the spelling test last week I had misplaced the list.  I figure if the teacher can loose the words, it may be possible that the students might do the same at some point.  I am going to try to start posting the homework online as well, I am still looking for the best format.

Our pennies go in this week.  We are putting out the call that we want to win this month!  It will be a close race and it looks like it will come down to a handful of pennies which will make the difference, keep checking your sofa cushions.  In math we worked on patterns and identifying the core of patterns and I posted our first bonus question.  Friday this week we will have a movie in the class and some spooky snacks as a reward (provided we continue to earn it).  Halloween is coming up so please remember NO CHOCOLATE in our class due to allergies.  Many thanks and have a great night.  ( I cant believe I did it again... I deleted the morning letter, check back for tomorrow's when I will be much more careful!)

We have a guest teacher tomorrow, I will be in Moncton at a workshop.  I know the students in this class will make our guest feel welcome and make all of us proud!  We went over some math games and continue to work on patterns.  We talked about fluency in writing and Clementine's school finished up Talent Palooza!  Do you think Clementines writing would have a lot of fluency?  In gym today we worked on skipping rope.  Most of us can make it under the rope but we only have a few who can stay in and jump... for now anyway!  I almost forgot.... at the end of the day the grade one class came into OUR ROOM to tell us that we were going to lose the Penny Award for October!  Check your sofa cushions kids 1 penny could make the difference.  They can have every other month, but October is ours!

We continued to work on patterns today in Math.  We discussed attributes (shape, size, color) of objects used in patterns and how a pattern core must repeat 3 times to be considered a pattern.  In art we made a wreath for remembrance day to help decorate the gym.  In guided writing we started our story about a cheetah named Killer, you can ask what its about.  In the agenda today we put "pennies".  Every month the home and school awards a trophy for the class that brings in the most pennies.  We decided that our class can't win every month, but we all try and contribute a little so that we can win at least once this year!  Lets win for October!  You may notice that there is no morning letter today.  I accidently erased it, ooppps!

We started a new unit in math today on patterns.  We started skipping in gym.  Mr. Lange and Mrs. McCarthy taught some new songs.  Ask how Clementine's rehearsal for the talent show is going so far.

Its that time of the year where students are getting comfortable enough to test their boundaries.  This often translates into some rude and bold behaviors.  Ian Baillie is a great school but it is unfortunately not exempt from this either.  That being said, today started with an assembly where Mrs McCarthy revisited the school rules.  I think our class knows, and follows the school rules for the most part.  Our biggest challenge is our classroom rule " BE PATIENT ".   Can your child explain what that means in our class?

Can you believe tomorrow is Friday already?  What a quick week.  No morning letter today because I was out for the first half of the day.  Interim reports went home today.  Feel free to contact me at anytime if you have any concerns.  Tomorrow I change all the seating, but some students had a little surprise when they walked in today.  There was something different/new about our classroom.

Another day full of surprises.  We had a surprise fire drill today!   And in the chapter book our class is reading, well, I think the people in Clementines building are going to get a surprise at their next building meeting.  I'd like to see her tap dance her way out of this one!  I will be out of the class until after lunch, but I will still be in the building, so I might have a little surprise of my own waiting for the students when they get to class tomorrow!

First day back from a 5 day weekend.  Everyone obviously got lots of rest because the students in this room had tons of energy and were super loud today.  Tomorrow is a new day, and hopefully one with the volume turned down a few notches.  Thursday this week Interim Reports go home and Friday our book orders go out and our fundraising monies come in.   There will also be a spelling test this Friday.   Please remember if your spending more than 20 minutes a night on homework or if it is a source of stress please contact me!

Super long weekend for students... teachers aren't as lucky, we only get 3 days (thats still pretty good though).  Can you believe I told the class I would come in on Monday so our class could have an extra day of school and fun, and no one wanted to come!  These kids must really love turkey!  No homework from me this weekend (that work was assigned by the firefighters who came to visit us).  Hope everyone has fun and gets lots of rest.  See you on Tuesday!

Im a little late posting today with the soccer, which was very fun!  Im sure there will be pictures and a news story about it posted to the sight soon.  I hope to get pictures of our class work up soon as well.  We did our first clay sculptures today in Art class.  I was very impressed with some of the creativity.  In math we are still working on estimation.  If we loved estimating marshmallows as much as we loved eating them, I'd dare say I had a future class of MIT grads.  We will continue to work on estimating.  Have a great night.
