Hi again!  Its  been a while since I've updated the site, but it should be business as usual from now on.  I will also make an effort to keep the calendar up to date with proper times on our assemblies and other events that pertain to this class.  Since we have come back from the March break we have had some changes!  We are closer to Sept Grade 3 than Sept Grade 2 students.  That means we are going to try to be even more independent!  We have taken the couches out of the classroom and gotten a bit more business like!  We also switch classes every day now for an hour.  Mrs Hache has taken over the Language Arts component for all the grade 2's and I have taken over the Mathematics component.  In math we are working on measurement.  Today we reviewed using many units to measure length, height, and distance around.  Ask your child if they can tell you how to measure using " the pencil method"!  Happy St. Patrick's day and stay tuned to morning announcements and this page to keep current with our school events.

A very good day today.  We started our day by reading our new chapter book.  Its a journal really.  Do you remember the name of it, or anything thats happened so far?  We had Fast ForWord, only 4 more days left and then recess.  After recess we had writing with Mrs. MacIsaac and PE.  In PE we had giant feet races instead of snow shoe races, because it was kinda rainy.  After lunch we did some math, do you remember where we watched the math bonus question.  What was different about the way we lined up after we watched the bonus question?  We had Mr. Lange and ended the day with music.   Remember to wear yellow tomorrow!

THANK YOU EVERYONE WHO VOTED!  WE WON!!  Our class website won a cute award last night!  We had a great day today, Im looking at my white board and I don't see anyone's name in the penalty box!  We started our new Wimpy Kid Chapter book after our spelling test.  I can tell everyone is studying.  We had Fast ForWord and we played with the scoops in gym.  In the afternoon Mr. Murphy (the guy from Math Bonus 008) came in to the class and talked about the olympics and being humble.   He is very nice and I hope we can see him every Friday afternoon for the next few weeks.  We ended the day with some free time on the computers!  Have a great weekend and see you on Monday (wear blue)!

What a busy week!  I was out of the class again today.  I was at District Office with Mrs. Hache (even thought I didn't make a big deal about it by interrupting the morning announcements) learning about the writing assessments.  Mr Somers was here for me today and he was very pleased with everyone's behavior and said he would love to come back!  That makes me very proud!  Book order monies are due tomorrow and our spelling test is tomorrow (review words are listed below).  We are going to the CUTE awards tonight and everyone is welcome to attend, the class is up for a musical award after all (Feet on the Floor).  Ian Baillie peoples will be meeting at JMH at 6:30 and taking our seats at 6:45.   Happy Flag Day!  We had a very nice assembly today and our class was well behaved.  I know its been hard for all the kids at school this month with all of the activities that are going on; I know how hard it can be for grade 2 with so many irregularities in their schedule; I've been very proud at the effort our class is putting in every day!   In our book today the kids made it off the island and back home before their parents found out!  We had Fast ForWord, recess, and assembly.  After assembly we did some math (using snap cube units), and finished up the day with music.  I wont be at school tomorrow, Mr. Somers will be in class in my place.  Best Behavior everyone!  Don't forget, our class is nominated for 2 CUTE awards!  Best website, and our song "Feet on the Floor".   On top of that our own Zach R is nominated for a Junior Reporter Award!  Everyone is welcome to attend on Wednesday night!   See who else at Ian Baillie has been nominated at the following link:http://www.district16.nbed.nb.ca/news/district-16-cute-awards-finalists-...

A very good day today!  We started out the day with a little laugh, the morning announcements were very good today!  Then we immediately voted for our own class to win a cute award!   We recorded the morning message, and read another chapter in our book.  Luckily Claire and Yum Yum have come to island and found the boys, we hope they get out and back home before their mom knows their missing!   In math we did some more estimating and measuring using different units.   After recess we went to an assembly for "IBP So You Think You Can Dance".  I hope we find out the winner(s) tomorrow.  We finished up with some fast forward.  Tomorrow is a very busy day.  We will have a normal opening morning (including spelling test), and start our valentines celebration at 9:40.  The choir people will leave for the Mount right after recess, and our assembly will start right after lunch.  Both grade 2's will miss Fast ForWord tomorrow.  We will finish up the day with our Math draw and a math game!  Remember dress warm and dress in blue! Our class list (which is missing Liam MacKinnon) is posted on this site at:http://ianbaillie.nbed.nb.ca/,sites/ianbaillied7.nbed.nb.ca/files/feeds/...   Today blew by!  We started the day with Fast Forward, had an early snack so that when the recess bell rang we were on the bus and ready to go skating!  We got back from skating and went straight outside.  We had hot lunch and did our afternoon letter.  We took some time and learned how to VOTE for our class for a cute award, and Mr. Lange came in to talk about our coming flag day in YYW.  We finished up with some Math around the world, and touched on how to choose what units to use when measuring.  We talked about why we might use snap cube units to measure floor tiles BUT NOT floor tiles units to measure snap cubes.  Its a bit confusing so we will talk about again tomorrow.  We should have some fun watching the "Ian Baillie So You Think You Can Dance" finals tomorrow too!  Remember VOTE VOTE VOTE!

What a good day!  Im sure we will have lots of listening awards this month!  We started the day of doing our morning letter and reading our chapter book.  It turns out nobody trapped the boys into the cave at all, but rather they must have got lost and found the door to a secret room!  I cant wait to see what happens next!  Also we read a book on an Inukshuk and what it means.  After all it is one of the symbols for the olympics in Canada.  Do you know whose classroom has a huge Inukshuk in it right now?  In math we played a game that showed why we might want to use different units at different times.  In Art we built a very cool valentines wreath and worked on making some twist tie people.  Remember we have skating tomorrow at 10:15!  Enjoy the great weather!

GREAT DAY!  What a way to start the week.  Unless of course, you're like the boys in our book who have been barricaded in a cave with logs and hundreds of little creatures!  Do you remember what kind of creatures are in the cave?  In math today we talked more about why measurement might be important, when we would use it in real life, and we practiced how to measure things using snap cube units!   This will be a busy week, Wednesday we skate, Thursday dance competition judging takes place (for those who wanted to dance), and Friday the class all dresses in Blue so that we can form the blue ring of the the olympic rings!  Hope tomorrow was as good as today!

Today we started off reading our chapter book and we now have 3 suspects who might be out to get the treasure in the town of Cabin Creek.  Do you remember who they are?  We did math for a change this morning.  We used string to help us measure each others height, and we used snap cube units to measure items in the class.  Im happy to say that no one had their name taken off the wheel for recess today either.  We had Fast ForWord and we are seeing lots of stars in the games and some people are even on to reading two now!  After lunch we went to gym class.  I don't like to report this because we had such a fabulous day otherwise, but gym didn't go so well.  We decided to warm up with a game, and I had to end it.  I had students in this class whining and even crying about who was following the rules, who was cheating, what was unfair because the referee didn't call it.  It was awful, I was shocked!  I was so disappointed that I had to cancel gym after the warm up and have a talk about sportsmanship. Again other than that a wonderful day.  We finished up with a book swap and expanding our idea webs!  Remember tomorrow is Jersey day so you can wear a hockey Jersey and we have an assembly at 10:30!  Dress warm incase we go out!  See you tomorrow.

We do have a spelling test on Friday, but I forgot to post that today.  The words were posted earlier this week.  A good day today.  This class (including myself) finds it very hard when we don't get outside.  We tend to crank up the crazy when this happens.  We do have some outlets at recess like dance revolution on the PS2, board games, computers, coloring sheets and other responsible choices.  Everyone gets their name on a wheel so that everyone gets a chance to rotate through these activities, but it really doesn't substitute for a good run outside.  That being said, due to the "crazy", we have moved from a 3 strike system, where the class stays in; to individual names get taken off the wheel for a day put into the penalty box at recess to do printing sheets.  We had a couple of penalties today, but thats to be expected with a rule change.  In our chapter book today we found some silver spurs that we think might be important!  Do you know why?  In PE we did some work with the scooters.  In Math we introduced using non standard "units" to measure things.  We used "worm units" in our example on the smart board to measure a gingerbread man, but can you think of some things we said would be good measuring units?  How about things that might not be so good and why?
