Another busy day! The Hot Lunch memo's went home today on the inside of the agenda's.  In math we had a senteo quiz based on our math vocabulary (I put a copy of the vocabulary flash cards on this site today).   Learning Math is sometimes like learning a new language.   We continued to work on our Pattern Rules.  Do you know my pattern rule for this pattern : 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18.....Start with______ and _______ each time. We stayed in for recess and Miss Gallant was kind enough to invite us into her classroom for a playdate!  (My class lacks toys and games, it has most certainly been brought to my attention by the students and will be addressed).   We had our first practice for cross country at lunch followed by an awsome lightning show!   I hope all the students give cross country a try!  It is a great experience for all grade 3's.  In PE we had our Tally Tuesday (even though it is Wednesday).  The students had lots of fun building their communities in social studies!  We are also starting to learn some basic computer skills in the lab.  Hope to see you at meet the teacher tonight at 6:30.

Sorry for the very late post!  I almost forgot!  We had a very busy day today!  We worked on our "Showing NOT telling" writing sentences.  Today we used the "Tell" sentence "she was sad".  How would you show that she was sad in your writing instead of telling the audience?  In our book, Marley, found his new favorite toy!  Do you remember what it was?  In Math we worked on Senteo's and concentrated on using "Pattern Rules".   Maybe you can make a pattern rule.   (START WITH______ AND _______ EACH TIME).  In science we went out and got some soil samples and looked at the scientific method.   We went outside for gym with Mr. Cormier and in music we worked on one of Mr. McCallum's Favorite songs!  Tomorrow is Meet the Teacher!   I hope to see you there.

We had a full Monday!  Do you remember the name that John and Jenny gave to their puppy?  They named him after a famous reggae musician named Bob...?  This dog has some things to learn about travelling in the car and sleeping at night. We had our bus evacuation practice early this morning.   In Math we practiced with the senteo controlers and started to do book work out of the text book.  Many of the students were very excited to start playing soccer in gym class today.  In science we learned about the different parts of soil.  Do you remember some of them (rock, organic material, humus, sand, silt, clay)?  In social studies we continued to work on community.  The school canteen is open and in full swing!  All items are either $0.50 or $1.00.    Meet the Teacher is this Wednesday night at 6:30, hope to see you there!

The first week flew by!  We had our first fire drill this morning, it was the best "exit time" we've had in several years!  Great Job!  We read about a "clearance dog", he sounded perfect!  That is until we met who?  In Math we did our first Senteo quiz of the year!  The students liked them, so we will try and use them every week!  Although I was not impressed with results of the very last question on the quiz!  I made a giant YES!!! and some students still put NO!  We played some tag games in gym and Mr. Muphy talked with us as well.  I think he may be looking for some peer helpers very soon.   In Science we talked about some of the attributes (describing words) we could use with our soil sample (a small piece that shows what the rest is like).  Miss Gallant did some bus safety that we will be finishing up on Monday and unfortunately we ran out of time for music.  Next week will be a full week, that will be full of learning!  Rest up this weekend and I will see you bright and early on Monday!

Another great day!  Thank you parents for checking the agenda's each night.  I have a majority of Media release foms back, most of the $12 agenda fee's collected , and all of the information forms verified!  You are making me look good, and I can use all the help I can get.  The highlight of day was probably ART with Miss Gallant, although I'm not really sure what project they did, maybe they can tell you.   In math we did a practice sheet on patterns and took a look at our text book.  We learned to doodle a mouse and read about a character called "Shawn".  They called him "Saint Shawn" actually.  Do you remember why?  In Science we talked about soil,  where it comes from, and a little project we will do next week.   The first week is flying by, cant wait to see what fun tomorrow brings!

Wow!  Our routines are already going much smoother!  We learned how to doodle an elephant and starting doing some more difficult patterns in math.  Mr. McCallum loves Math Vocabulary!  How well does your student know some of the more tricky vocabulary like: ATTRIBUTE (a describiing word like shape, color or size), ELEMENT (an item  that appears in a pattern), INCREASING (grows/gets bigger), DECREASING (shrinks/gets smaller).  We talked about some our "healthy habits" in health class and we got our login's for computer class.  The students were very patient in computer class, especially since some computers were running a bit better than others.  Tomorrow we have ART with Miss Gallant, and I heard a rumour that paint may be involved!  It should be fun!  Just like every day here at Ian Baillie!

Today was the first day of grade 3!  We have a new student in our class from Korea, do you remember his name?  We did a lot of work settting up how the day will look and going over routines.  I think some of the students found the extra hour of school a bit challenging, but they will get used to it after a week or so!  Most students didn't even hear the bell ring or the younger students going home because we were in the middle of a science experiment!  Do you remember where Mr. McCallum found his polymer (magic powder)?  In math we started on some more challenging types of patterns.   Mr. McCallum likes using math vocabulary!  Do you remember the words he used instead of growing and shrinking?  Miss Gallant introduced "Community" in social studies today.  Our community is very hard to spell!  (Hint: I wouldn't be surprised if it showed up as a bonus word in next week's spelling!  shhhhh!).  Get some rest and check your students agenda, I circle their behavior at the end of each day!  (All Smiley faces for the first day!)
