White Knight Rises by BenFirst school day of February and all was well!  We started off with a different twist to our language arts warm up.  I asked to students to complete the sentence  "When I grow up, I want to be ______ because _____".   Some students said, "But I think I want to be lots of different things!", so we just chose one for today.  What did you choose?  In language arts with Miss Gallant there are no spelling words this week.  Mr. McCallum may have borrowed Miss Gallants book and temporarily misplaced it!  OPPS!  Dont worry, I'll find it and we will have spelling again in no time!  Today in LA we worked on how to research!  This is great because we all have heritage fair projects that will require some research!  At recess we have begun to use 3M as the eating room, and 3G as the playing room.  You have to eat before you can play and you need to keep the food tidy and in one room.  After recess we had math.  In math we started out with a quick listening quiz that I posted on this page.  Did you find it hard?  We also talked about tally marks, data, and titles for charts, before we had to produce those things in our board work.  We didn't do anything in the textbook today.   We did get to go outside on this beautiful day!  Using one class as a lunchroom is working so nicely we have decided to all eat lunch in one classroom for a while too.  The students really seem to like this too!  After lunch we went to PE were we got out the big mats and did gymnastics.  Do you remember what we learned to day?  I know I couldn't do a back bridge!  Could you?  In social studies we worked on our Heritage fair project.  Those are coming along nicely!   We finished up the day with our closing activities, cleaning, organizing, books of gratitude, and agenda's!  It will be a full week and Friday we get to see a magician!  Get lots of sleep tonight and I will see you tomorrow.

Mom and I by Mikey I have to start by thanking everyone for coming out to family literacy night last night!  What a great time!  I hope everyone had tons of fun!   We started the day by getting bundled up and heading to Saint Andrews Church for our school assembly!  Congratulations to Ryan Godfrey who came in third place in the Legion poster contest!  Trisha was also awarded the first Principals Award of the year!   We all did very well!  We came back in time to get our library books changed before recess!  After recess we went to language arts with Miss Gallant.   Five minutes before class was over Mrs. McCarthy came over the intercom and announced we would be going outside!  We were so excited!  After lunch we went up to JMH for PE with Miss McFarlene.  When we came back from PE we went to Art with Miss Gallant.  I hope I get to see your art in the halls of the school very soon!  We finished off the day going over the home and school fundraiser!  I was excited for someone in our class to win principal of the day, UNTIL they told me their first rule as principal would be to take away the coffee from all the teachers!  HOW CRUEL!  I know today felt like a Friday, but we still have a full day of school tomorrow, so get lots of sleep tonight!

View from my Desk by Ryan  Today was a day of with lots of change!  We started off with a change of teachers!  Mr. Lynch and Mrs. McCormick taught until lunch (because Mr. McCallum and Miss Gallant had meetings).  We got a new student today named Ben Park!  I think may be able to spot him in Ryans Picture of the Day.  Do you remember where he is from?  Tonight we have family literacy night here at the school from 6-7!  I hope to see you here!  Tomorrow we have our assembly at 9:00 at Saint Andrews Church!  All are welcome and please dress warmly because we will be walking!

Right... There! by Kaitlin I ran into a little problem yesterday with my post, sorry its late!   We started out yesterday with a spelling word from science that means more than just a guess, its our prediction!  Do you remember what the word was?  In math we had an oral test where the teacher said a number between 0 and 9 999, and the students wrote that number down.  We are still running into some problems with these.  How did you make out on the quiz?  After recess we had Miss Gallant for language arts.  This week we have THE SAME SPELLING WORDS AS LAST WEEK!    We are going to be experts on these words!  We also worked on our persausive writing.  I am getting some letters now trying to convince me to get the old desks back!  There is no desk change for at least two weeks!    We stayed indoors again today because it was just too cold!  After Lunch we went up to JMH for tally Tuesday!  How many laps did you get today?  When we came back we had guidance with Mr. Murphy.  When I walked past the classroom I noticed everyone had their shoes and socks off!  Does Mr. Murphy always let grade 3's go barefoot in the winter?  After guidance we had Science!  We talked about the scientific method and if all magnets have the same strength.  Do you they?  We'll find out soon enough!  We finished up the day with a talk about how we treat guests.  How do you treat guests in your home?  I hope its very well because Mr. Lynch will be our guest for the morning while Mr. McCallum is in meetings!  Get lots of sleep and I will see you tomorrow!

MVHS Waiting for the Bus by Jacob We started the day off with a surprise!  I traded all the desks for tables!  This was not as well recieved as I might have hoped.  Everyone said they wanted a change so we got a big one!  We are almost half way done our school year and its time to step it up again.  The desk change will be the easy change.  Its time to get ready for grade 4!   After our morning warm up, we went to language arts with Miss Gallant.  We worked on persausive writing.  I wonder if I will get any letters trying to convince me to get the desks back?  We also have the SAME SPELLING WORDS  as last week!  We are going to become experts!   After recess we had a quick discussion about eating and dropping food and garbage on the floor.  I hope you were being neat and courteous.  In math we did a very long senteo quiz!  Its time to move on to a new Unit in math that will start tomorrow.  Stay tuned for our new math vocabulary.  After math we had indoor recess, because it was too cold to get on the playground.  Maybe tomorrow!  After recess we went up to JMH and split the gym to play floor hockey!  We came back in time for social studies where we talked about our upcoming heritage fair!  We finished off the day with our agenda's, books of gratitude (which were very neat), and getting dressed to go home!  Miss McCarthy was on duty and commented how awesome everyone was in the hallway after school!  I guess I will have to everyone a bonus ticket tomorrow.  Have a great night sleep and I will see you tomorrow!

IM BATMAN! By Georgia We started out today by cleaning our desks!  The students were surprised by this little change in the routine, but they liked it and did a great job.  (Wait until they see the surprise I have for them on Monday, I hope they got their desk very clean).  In math we did the oral part of the test.  Some of us still need work on writing down our numbers as we hear them.  We had Language arts.  PE we played floor hockey at JMH.  We got to paint in ART.  Lillian won a mysterious prize!

Hot Lunch Thursday? by Gavin I hope everyone had a restful snow day!  We started out the day by going down to change our library books. After library we had a unit math test.  Everyone knew it was going to be very difficult when they saw the first question on the test!  Do you remember what it was?  Most people did finish, but I will give some extra time to finish it up tomorrow and to do part 2.  Part two will be a senteo quiz that you can do at your own pace.   After math we had a quick recess where lots of people were busy writing me persausive letters.  What do these crazy kids want me to do now?   After recess we had language arts with Miss Gallant!  Everyone was craving Oreo Cookies by the end of that class!  It was 19 below zero today even though it was sunny, so we had an indoor recess.  We also had hot lunch today!  Thank you so much to all the volunteers who make it possible to have that program every week!  The students sure do love it!  After lunch we reviewed the scientific method.  Can you name all 6 parts?  We all jumped on the bus and headed up to JMH for PE Tally Thursday!  Thats a big gym!  How many laps did you get?  We came back to the school and worked on our Bake Sale posters for computer class.   Did you get yours finished and emailed to the teacher, or are you still working on it?  We finished up our day with our closing activities!  Only one more day and this week is done!  Get lots of rest!  See you in the morning.

Taking It In by Thomas Today we did a story about story "Pandora's Box".  Do you remember the story?  We did a small problem with a friend, and doodled a 3D box.  In language arts we started a cool new novel called Jump in the Pool.  Do you remember what happened so far?  Im also starting to get some persausive writing pieces that are trying to convince me to get a class pet!  Only one letter so far, so Im not too worried.  After recess we had math.  In math we had a senteo quiz and reviewed rounding and modeling numbers.  It was a beautiful day so we made outside for lunch.  After lunch we reviewed the 3 phases of the scientific method and started to learn how to tell time on an analog clock.  Then we went to PE at JMH.  When we came back we did health and social studies. Miss Gallant gave a little pop quiz in social studies.  Do you remember any of the questions?  We finished off the day with our book of gratitude, our agenda's, and packing up our memos and our agenda's.  Wednesday we go skating!  Dress warm, and get lots of sleep.  See you tomorrow.

Weekly Draw by LillianToday was Show and Tell day!  We had flying fairy's, barbie buses, dolls with their own books, remote control toys, MacDonald happy meal toys, lego, tablets, phones, and other cool things too!  It really didn't matter what you brought it was about being able to stand up in front of the class and talk about your item and tell a story about it!  It not easy to stand up and face a class of your friends and talk, its even harder to not talk and listen to someone else when you have a cool toy infront of you,  but everyone did an excellent job!  We started first thing in the morning and wrapped up at 10:00.  We got few minutes to have an early snack and to share our show and tell with our friends. After recess we did language arts with Mr. McCallum!  We solved a small problem of getting our keys locked in the car.  How did you solve it.  We watched a video on how a fox hunts for mice in the winter. What direction do they have to face to hear and catch prey?  We did some spelling and read to self and it was time for outdoor recess. After lunch we reviewed the 3 phases of the scientific method.  Do you know any of the steps for it?  We had PE at JMH with Miss MacFarlene and played floor hockey.  I had lots of sweaty students back this afternoon!  After PE Mr. Cormier did social studies.  We came back to class and did the weekly draw.  Mitchell won and chose to take the safe prize.  Do you think he should have chosen the "Mystery Prize"?  Have a great weekend and I will see you Monday Morning.

Ready to Work by Mikey I was absent from school today.  Mr Lynch was in the classroom in my place.  I had an excellent report that all of the students behaved, worked hard, and it was business as usual!  Mikey was the photographer of the day and got some awesome pictures!

Winter Fun by MitchellToday flew by!  We started out with our opening activities and trying to think of a small problem we might have with a waiter.  This class must eat out lots because they thought of everything!  Can you remember a few?  We also watched a quick news story about someone who liked photography so much they made it their job and now work for National Geographic trying to save an animal.  Do you remember which 200 year old mammal he wanted to help save?  After our morning warm up we went to language arts with Miss Gallant.  Check out Miss Gallants teacher page to learn more about what we did!  After recess we had math.  We reviewed rounding, adding, subtracting, and arrays.   Hopefully we will finish UNIT 3 early next week.  We got outside for lunch today, and came in to a wonderful hot lunch!  As always thank you so much to all the volunteers who make this possible!  After lunch we reviewed the 3 phases of the scientific method and then we went up to JMH for PE.  Miss Mcfarlene was very pleased with the way we entered the building today!  After PE we had ART with Mr. McCallum!  I talked about pencil pressure, vanishing points, and horizon.  We did some quick sketches of a sunset.  at the end of a long straight road.  Everyone did a great job for the first time!  Tomorrow is another busy day, so get lots of rest, dress warm, and I will see you in the morning!

New Projector by JacobToday the day started off GREAT!  Everyone was on task, wrote their agenda's, set up their page for morning activitities and got their number of the day quiz finished and submitted!  We worked on solving the problem of a loud dog!  Do you remember any of the solutions?  Even silly and strange answers can be used!  In math we reviewed rounding and the difference between estimating and mental math.  Estimating is close, but not exact, where mental math is done in your head to find an exact number!  When we were doing our math we got our new projector installed, its hard to compete with that!  We worked through the tiny (but very necessary) distraction and finished our math.  After recess we had language arts with Miss Gallant.  Check out her teacher page today to see what we did!   At lunch today we got outside! Finally!  It was very mild and very fun!  Make sure you bring your ski pants.  In PE today we went up to JMH.  We had a little problem coming into the gym too excited, but Im confident tomorrow will be better!   When we got back Mr. Murphy talked to the grade 3 about different things that make us feel different ways.  What makes you scared?  Was it the same for everyone?  In science we reviewed Phase 1 of the scientific method and worked on invisible forces.  Can you cut the north pole off a magnet?  (Think of my slice of bread story, it always has two sides no matter how you slice it.)  When it comes to North and South poles sometimes they attract and sometimes they repel.  Do you remember what we said about opposites to help us remember?  We finished off the day with our closing activities.  Get lots of sleep tonight and I will see you tomorrow!
