Selfie on a Timer by LillianWe started the day with some spelling and small problems, then we had a joint language arts class until recess (while I went to Newcastle to teach the grade 2 PE).  We had choir practice at recess.  I have a feeling choir may get some new grade 3 boys joining tomorrow, or at least visiting with a letter about why they want to be MC.   After recess we had a joint math class!  We did board work and worked in our teams to estimate some objects.  Did you use a sample as a referent to help you estimate?  I hope so!  Then we went outside for lunch!  It was just before we sat down to eat that I noticed the picture of the day being taken.  We worked It is true that some pictures might look a little crisper and clearer than this one, but I chose it because Lillian chose to play with the settings, use the timer, and pose for a picture herself!  Keep showing each other features of the camera and dont be afraid to take LOTS of pictures!   After lunch we had music class with Mrs. McCarthy and started our concert songs.  A little bit different from yesterday when we went to NBCC for gym!  After rehearsal we had Mr. Murphy!  I know its anti-bully week, do you remember what you talked about?  Then for science we worked with our groups to figure out some word puzzles!  Do you remember any of them?  (Sandbox, I understand, long under wear, man over board?)  We also got a chance to give our partners a grade!  Were you a hard marker?  We finished off the day with our regular closing routine and we also got our REPORT CARDS!  Everyone did very well!  Im very pleased with everyone!  Miss Gallant and I attached the Parent teacher interview times on the front of the envelope.  Dont forget we have skating tomorrow!  You need to bring your helmet, or you wont be allowed on the ice.  Get lots of rest and I will see you in the morning.

Changing Season by MikeyI was sick on Friday, so I didnt get a chance to put up the picture of the day.  Check out the nature picture by Mikey!  Today was a different day again!  The day started out perfectly normal, but then we had music in the morning, followed by gym class.  Today there was something very different and special about gym!   Do you remember what it was?  After recess we had math.  We did a quick quiz in place of board work (I will post the quiz).  Everyone did very well.   We had an indoor recess because of the rain today.  After lunch we went to Miss Gallants class for language arts and social studies.   Miss Gallant had a substitute teacher today.  Do you remember her name?  Everyone thought Mrs. Boucher was very nice.  We finished off our day with our closing routine, and lots of notes went home today including a slip to book a time for parent teacher interviews.  Report cards go home tomorrow, and we have skating on Wednesday.  This is going to be a busy week.   Get lots of rest and dress warm!  See you tomorrow.

Math Quiz #2 Answer KeyThis was very similar to a spelling test.  Where does the dollar symbol always go?  Where does the cent symbol always go?  What does the word "and" mean when saying numbers?

Guided Reading Lesson By MitchellWe started the day with our regular opening activities.  We practiced our new "decoding", "small problem", and of course our doodle!  The students are always dissappointed if we have to miss our daily doodle!  Mrs. McCarthy was gone for part of the day so we had a substitute teacher do the PE first thing in the Morning.  Do you remember what games we played?  In math we had another quiz.  I recorded the quiz and posted it.  We all marked each others quiz.  I think the marking was more difficult than the quiz itself!  After recess we had language arts, check out Miss Gallants teacher page to see what we did today.  After lunch we played a few quick Math games to show the difference between Digits and Numbers.   Then we went to Social Studies and worked on our directions, map keys, and community.  We finished the day with ART!  We talked about a famous artist, do you remember his name?  I think his painting was called "Stary Night".   Tomorrow is the end of the week already!  Feel free to bring in a change of clothes to keep in the class room, dress warm, and get lots of sleep!  See you in the morning!

Take MY picture! By Jacob and Mrs. Cripps Wednesday flew by!  We had another change in our opening routines today, instead of a spelling word we did  "Decoding a Word".  Its not the same, but some parts are similar.  Can you explain it?  Todays word was "particularly".  Then we went to language arts with Miss Gallant.  Check out her teacher page to read more!  Another joint class recess today!  Thats encouraging because it means we are getting along and following the rules.  In math today we worked on the symbols for "dollars and cents".  Do you remember what they look like and how we write them?  We also had a math quiz that was like a spelling test.  Since it was only a practice it doesnt count, but I think I will give another one tomorrow!  I'll try and remember to record and post it!   We went outside at lunch and I am happy to say most of the students at Ian Baillie wore their ski pants today.  We had pizza for hot lunch today and it was delicious!  Thank you so much to all the volunteers who make hot lunch possible!  We had PE in the classroom today.  What games did you play?  In social Studies we worked on maps and in computer we learned how to make our tables have no border lines!  We finishe off the day with our book of gratitude and re-organizing our papers.   Get lots of rest, dress warm, and I will see you tomorrow!

Thomas Following Directions by RyanA very busy Tuesday. We started out the day with a new additon to our opening activities called "Small Problems".  Do you remember what it was about?  We also watched our new class introduction video for when we skype.  In math Mrs. Petrie came in to help us, and we modelled numbers using coins.  We will be having indoor recess until spring, and so far we have been able to travel between the two classrooms!   That means we are following all the I-care rules.  Check out Miss Gallants teacher page to see what we did in Language Arts today!  We got outside for lunch and had lots of fun.  With snow on the ground it is definately snow-pants time!  Most of the students brought them today.  A few people have brought in a change of clothes to keep in the class in case they get wet playing at recess!  I know I have two changes in the back of the room for me!  Feel free to put some dry clothes in a bag and keep them in the class room just in case.  The gym is closed until further notice (as the memo that went home today addressed), so we had PE in the classroom!  Do you remember what game Mrs. McCarthy was playing with us?  How do you play?  Mr. Murphy came in for guidance today, and in Science we started to work in teams!  Do you like teams?  Why is important we do them?  There is hot lunch tomorrow at 11:55.  Report cards go home next Tuesday!  Get lots of rest and dress warm tomorrow!

Brother & Sister by KaitlinWe started out today with a news story from the Calgary Zoo.  Do you remember what it was about?  In math we worked on skip counting and representing numbers with money.  Today there was no choir at recess.  Check out Miss Gallants teacher page to read more about Language Arts today.  At lunch we had to stay in because it was raining, but we found lots of fun things to keep us occupied. After lunch we had a Remembrance Day Ceremony run through.  I was very pleased with how seriously the grade 3's.  Best behavior tomorrow again, and remember we are all wearing black and white.   We are also going to the Mount after lunch to perform "Flanders Fields".  After the rehearsal we finished up our posters and some art projects to display in the gym for tomorrow.  Our program will start at 10:30 and all are welcome to attend.  Get lots of sleep, look over your poem one last time, lay out your clothes for the morning, and I will see tomorrow before the long weekend.

This was a quick game I played with a few students today.  Do you remember if Kaitlin won big?  Who else got a chance to play?  Practice counting money at home, so when you get your chance you can win big!
