Welcome To Our Page

This week we had a unit test, senteo quiz, a new format for board work, a title page, and we reviewed the steps for adding.  Do you know a fancy math word for "the step by step way to do something"?  We usually have a quick warm up to get the students started each day when they come in the room.  We didn't get to the text book this week, but here is what we did look at.

Talk to the Colorful Hand by RyanWe started out the day with everyone in a wild and crazy mood.  Christmas must be around the corner!  Luckily we settled down quickly after a talk and got straight to our work.  We worked on using different pressure with our pencil today in our doodle.  That is something we will have to work on. Is 5=3+2?  In math today we introduced two new vocabulary words, sum and equal.  Do you remember what they mean?  There was no choir today, but we got to get outside!  The soccer field is getting a little rough.  There is no "dog piling".  I'd hate to see the grade 3's have to give up their days on that field and play elsewhere, so be safe, be gentle, and be kind!  After lunch we went on the bus to the Lindon Rec Center and played tennis!  So cool!  We got back just in time for art class with Miss Gallant.  Today we used water colors and made a Christmas Themed Scene.   What was the theme?  There were two memo's that went home.  Tomorrow is Jersey Day and Show & Tell for photograph's only (there is no sheet to fill out this time).

Anna and Katilin Wait by KatilinWe started out the day with me finally caving on a "Show AND Tell".   I dont really like bringing toys to school, even for show and tell, however the students finally bugged me... I mean... convinced me, that they could do a great job with it.  On Friday we will have our first show and tell with a PHOTOGRAPH.  You can bring in a picture of anything you can talk about.  If it goes well, we will see about working our way up to some bigger items like toys and pets.  You can bring a picture of a toy or pet this time!   We started off the day with a quick warm up.  Our world news item was about pet pigs.  Do you remember what can cause them to be "blind"?  We also did a quick doodle of a cartoon pig.  Then we had language arts with Miss Gallant and choir at recess.  The choir sounds great!  In math we talked about adding and subtracting.  Some of us had trouble re-writing addition problems with one number on top of the other so that the 100's, 10's, and 1's all line up with 3 digit and 2 digit numbers.   For example 100 + 30 = 130 NOT 400!  We will continue to work on these!  We had an indoor recess today because of the wet weather.  I hope you found a quiet activity.  After lunch we had PE in the classroom with Mrs. McCarthy.  I messed up!  We go to the Lindon Rec Center for gym tomorrow afternoon.  Opps!  After gym we went to the computer lab for social studies.  Check out the link on Miss Gallants web page to help you do your report.   We finished off the day with a special guest!  Mr. Savoy came back and talked to us about Cyber Bullying!  He gave us some great tips if someone is being mean to us online, and reminded us that even though we think we can delete things online its not always that simple!  So remember to ALWAYS be nice, even online!

Theres always TIMER for friends by GavinA very busy little day today.  We started off the day practicing the seven continents for our upcoming "Mystery Skypes".  Do you remember any of the seven continents?  We did a show not tell on, "it was a snow day".  Then we went to Miss Gallants class for a double language arts class (Mr. McCallum went to Newcastle to do gym with the grade 2's).   We had choir practice at recess, followed by math.  In math we started our new unit on addition and subtraction by reviewing the algorithm for adding.  What does algorithm mean?  And we finished up a senteo quiz on numbers to 1000.  We got outside for lunch today and its a good thing we had our hats, mitts, and ski pants because it was -8 with the windchill on the playground.  We had Mrs. McCarthy and Mr. Murphy after lunch and then we went to computer with Miss Gallant (a different Miss Gallant).  Tomorrow we go to Newcastle for gym so make sure you have sneakers (no heels or dress shoes ladies).  Have a great night and I will see you in the morning!

This was a quick video the class shot in the afternoon after Remembrance Day.   It was originally going to be used to introduce our class to other classes when we skype with them.  This is the test version, but I promised the students I would post it.  Everyone loves videos and pictures of themselves, especially this class!

Frosty by GeorgiaOur first day back after a long weekend!  There were lots of little stories that had to be told before anyone could settle down and get any work done!  Check out some of our stories in our Morning Letter that was read by Ryan!  Great job Ryan!  We went to language arts after our letter was completed.  Check out Miss Gallants teacher page to see what we did.  At recess most of the class had choir practice!  The choir sounds great!  In math today we had the first part of a quiz and started our title pages as a responsible choice for our next unit on Addition and Subtraction.  We had an indoor recess today because it was too windy and cold to get outside.   The photogragher of the day loved the self timer, great job exploring the settings.  Peer helpers were still on duty!  After lunch we had PE with Mrs. McCarthy.  I saw her come in with a music speaker, do you remember what you did?  After PE we had health and social studies with Miss Gallant.  In health we talked about dental care, and in social studies we learned a song to tell us the name of the provinces and the territories.  Do you remember how many provinces and how many territories there are in Canada?  We finished off the day with our normal routine, clean, book of gratitude, agenda's with memo, and get ready.  Get lots of sleep tonight, we have a full week!  See you in the morning.

Good Morning,  Today is Monday November 25th, 2013. Welcome to our grade 3 Class news letter. Occasionally we work together as a class to tell you about some of the exciting things going on in our lives and in our school! We just had a long weekend and lots of fun things happened. Thomas went to Moncton and stayed at a new hotel with a huge water slide! Then he went to a parade! On Friday Kaitlin made cookies and Jello, and got her tree up on Sunday! Lillian put up her very own Christmas tree in her room. Mikey is asking for a TV for Christmas, but doesn't think he will get one until he turns 20. Friday Mitchell tried to take his dirt bike up a hill, but the hill won, and Mitchell laid on the hill for 5 minutes. Gavin and Georgia went to their grandfathers house. Gavin froze his toes off, so he went and sat by the fire for 2 hours. The neighbors dog Sprocket, stole Georgia's teddy named Banana. He was rescued! Jacob played club peguin all weekend, but only because he cleaned the house first! Ryan went to bed at 6 last night, and woke up at 6am this morning. He is a great sleeper!

Counted and Kept by Tricia"If you can count it, you can keep it!"  Today Georgia counted $4.51 in 20 seconds!  She got to keep it, and I think she spent it at the book fair.  I have parent teacher interviews, so I will be back with more details of our day, including Newcastle!  Stay tuned!

"Say Cheese" by ThomasWhat a busy little Wednesday we had today!  The day started off with our normal routine, and I was very happy with the morning work today.  It was much neater, smaller writing, better spaced, and looked like grade 3 work!  We also got to doodle a man and a boy.  Then we went to language arts with Mrs. Gallant.  Remember its a short week so our spelling test is tomorrow!  We had an early recess to get a quick snack and use the washrooms because today was skating day!  Im very happy to report everyone had a helmet and skates in this room today!  Many thanks to the parent volunteers that helped tie skates and buckle those helmets!  We got a few pictures up in a gallery on this page aswell.   We got back to the school just in time for lunch.  What a yummy hot lunch!  (Again thank you parent volunteers!)  After lunch we had a joint music rehearsal for the Christmas concert followed by social studies.   Do you remember what we did in social studies today?  I know it had something to do with coloring and maps.  We also got a chance to check out the school book fair!  I saw lots of busy pencils writing wish lists.  We do love to read.   Tomorrow we are going to Newcastle for gym in the afternoon.  Make sure you have some good indoors for running, no high heels ladies ;)  Get lots of rest and I will see you tomorrow before your long weekend!  (Lucky kids!)

We had a great day skating today!  Lots of wonderful skaters, but more importantly lots of students who skated safe!  Its the biggest rule of the gym, the biggest rule of the classroom, the biggest rule in school.   BE SAFE!  I was very proud of all of the grade 3 students today.  Even though we...
