Angry Bird Maze

Posted: December 5, 2016

It was a busy day in Grade 2!  We started off with a visitor.  We now have an elf.  Her name is Sparkle.  I blame the students who wrote letters requesting an elf!  Bah Humbug!

Mrs. Hill's class came in and we had a quick song practice for the Christmas Concert.  A note went home today (see attached) about the concert and what to wear.  After that we got straight to our work.  What word did we use "gave" to help us spell.  (Hint: It was behind the church). Our spelling word was "attention", and we did an introduction for a letter.  We also did a quick Santa doodle before getting in one round of the daily 5.

In math we went over even and odd numbers.  What digit do you look at to decide if an number is even or odd?  We also went over different strategies for addition.  Some of us tried the regrouping method.  If you tried this and didnt get your sheet finished dont be upset!  Its new and it will take a while to get quick.

After lunch we had PE with Miss Barton.  We played basketball!  In art we tried painting with watercolors!  We did a great job for our first attempt, and we will try them again soon!  We had a few minor spills and messes, so I didnt sign the agenda's today.

Dress warm, get lots of sleep, and I will see you in the morning.

The days are getting colder!  Make sure you dress warm.  We only go outside once at big recess, so there is lots of time to get on ski-pants and winter clothes.

We started off the day by practicing our songs. Can you believe our concert is next week!  Then we started our regular day opening activities.  Our "Using words" were keep, has, but, when.  Which word could help us read or spell "strut"?  Our spelling word was "demonstrate".  Does the last syllable have a long or short vowel sound?  If its a long vowel sound how many vowels will we need?  We did a closing for "How to Whisper" and practiced editing with red and blue pens.  What do you use a red pen for and a blue pen for?  We doodled a friendly monster and went into our daily 5.  Mrs. MacDonald an I both worked with groups while everyone else did a round of read to self.

After recess we had math.  We did a listening quiz.  We talked about digits and place value.  We worked on number lines with bench marks.  We looked at different strategies for adding two numbers.  We did an addition work sheet and went over a new strategy for two digit numbers.

After lunch we had PE.  We worked on basketball with Mrs. Clancy.  Then we went to the computer lab and worked on scratch.  We finished off the day working on ti-ti's and ta's (note counts).  We signed our agenda's and packed memo's.  Get lots of sleep, dress warm, and I will see you in the morning.

We are in the tail end of November already!  WOW!  Time flies when you're having fun in Grade 2.

We started the day of practing our Christmas song with the other Grade 2 class.  Can you believe our concert is next week?  After a quick run through we did our regular morning routine.  We made 4 words (tall, clam, glade, score) using sight words.  Do you remember our four sight words we used to help us?  Our spelling word was "Autobiography", do you remember what that means?  How many syllables is it?  We did some peer editing for a closing for "How to Bake Cookies" and doodled a man.

After indoor recess (it will be indoor recess from now until spring) we did some math.  We worked on doubles, friends of ten, skip counting, and lot of place value work.  Math class went very quickly despite all the guest teachers we had for place value charts!

After lunch we had PE.  It was Yoga Monday.  Did you feel relaxed?  We came back from PE to watch a great play of "The little Red Hen".  It was really good!   We learned a little bit about Vincent Van Gogh and worked with some pastels in Art.  We did a night time background and lots of blending.  I would post pictures online, but Mrs. Hache is strange about pastel on the scanner glass.

Dress warm, get lots of sleep.  Its pita pit for hot lunch tomorrow for $4.50.  Have a great night!  See you in the morning!

Grade 2 is so much fun!  We had another fun day! We started off with our regular routine.  We used "red, black, brown, and green" for our using words.  Which color could help us read, or spell "backpack"?  Our spelling word was "conversation" and we did a closing for "How to Party".  We doodled a penguin.  We did a buddy read.  Who did you read with.  For our second round of Daily 5 we choose either a read or write to self.

Everyone went outside for recess today.  I hope you dressed warm!  After recess we practiced our songs with Mrs. Hill's class.  In math we looked at the steps for our adding algorithm and went over the place value chart.  We did did some skip counting with two's from different starting points, including odd numbers.  We also did a math by ourselves addition sheet.

After outdoor recess we had you and your world.  Today we talked about the four directions (N,S,E,W), the seven continents, and the equator.  We also talked about a game called Mystery Skype.

Next we went to PE.  I saw lots of basketballs in the gym!  I hope you had fun!  We finished off the day with a review of the things we did, we wrote in our book of gratitude, and we got our agenda's signed.  We also had a quick dance party!  Your Ballet Dancing was my favorite!

Get lots of sleep, dress warm, and I will see you in the morning!

We started off today with new morning sheets.  That is rarely popular with the class.  We got everything set up and had a lesson on how to draw lines and make a table with the ruler.  We did a new activity called "using words".  We gave four words and students had to use the endings to help them decide how to spell the word.  The four words were "Red, Green, Black, Brown".  Which word could help you read or spell the words queen or crown?  Our spelling word was "capitalization".  How many syllables is that?  When you are spelling it, make sure each syllable has a vowel!  We wrote a closing for "How to Fish" and we used blue and red pens to start the editing process.  Did you find any mistakes in your writing piece?  We also doodled a penguin.

After an outdoor recess with light flurries (dress warm), we practiced our Christmas song with Mrs. Hill's class.  We came back to class and did a listening quiz with our doubles facts.  We looked at a quick video on doubles. We also started the steps for adding two digit numbers.  We did a quick adding circle and the bell rang to go outside.

We had Ed's for hot lunch.  I only have a few hot lunch form's back for next week.  I've added a copy of the up coming hot lunch's if you need to print off a new one.  Dont miss out on this awesome program.

In PE we had Tally Tuesday.  How many laps did you get?  After PE we went to the computer lab to work on Scratch.  Today we looked at sprites, different costumes for them, and how animation works.  Did you find a new sprite?

We finished off the day with Mrs. Sturgeon doing guidance.  We talked about using I-care language.  I hope everyone in this class tries to use I-care language!  I asked everyone to sign their own agenda with a happy face.  Get lots of sleep tonight, dress warm (its already snowing), and I will see you in the morning.

What a great way to start the week.  We got lots of work done and had lots of fun!  We started with our regular activitites.  Our rhyme riddle was "My brother will often weep when his team loses" (keep).  Our spelling word was "difference".  Our closing was for "How to sneeze".  What does the closing of a story mean?  We doodle a snowman.

Mrs. MacDonald talked to us about good fit books and the kinds of books we should have in our book boxes.  We changed all the books in our book boxes!  It was very exciting!  We had a quick snack and either went outside or to the gym for choir.

After recess we had a very quick walk through of our Christmas songs.  We did a math listening quiz and corrected it.  It was all about doubles.  Do you know all your doubles?  How about 7+7=__ ?  We also looked at number lines and talked about the numbers on them called the benchmarks.

After an indoor lunch we had PE with Mrs. McFarlene.  We did yoga!  It was very relaxing.  We came back from gym to find all of our seats had been changed and we finished off the day drawing Olaf from Frozen.  Check out our work from today!  I also posted our crocodiles from last week.  Get lots of sleep tonight, dress warm, keep dry, and I will see you in the morning!

I can't believe the week is already over! It flew by! We started off today with 3 rhyme riddles. What word could help me spell "other"? Our spelling word was "punctuation" and our closing was for "How to Read to Self". What is a closing? We doodled a puppy on our own without instruction. Everyone did a great job. We talked about becoming editors. What is an editor? We looked at punctuation and capitalization. We worked with pens. It was first time being editors and it was a little overwhelming and confusing for most of us. Thats ok, we'll just keep working on it! We also got in one round of the daily five. After an indoor recess we went to Mrs. Hill's room to check out our Christmas songs! We have some work do because our songs are hard! Do you remember the name of the first song we looked at? After Mrs. Hill's room we went to the book fair! That was very exciting. When we came back up we had to do a round of read to self! We got ready for recess and the bell rang. After indoor lunch we had PE with Mrs. McFarlene. We played some catch games. We went to computer next and worked on scratch. Check out the pricture of the day! I took a screen shot of Gavins code! He was able to make his sprite move with the arrow keys. He has completed the first step of programing a workable character in a game! Do you know which direction X is and which direction Y is? We finished off the day writing in our book of gratitude, getting our agenda's signed, and packing memo's on French Immersion. Have a great long weekend, get lots of rest, dress warm, stay dry, and I will see you on Monday!p>

What a fun day!  We had skating, the bookfair, gym, an indoor recess, and lots of learning!  Grade 2 is the best!

We started off with our rhyme riddle.  What word wall words could help me spell "I might get a sheep" (right, keep).  Our spelling word was "organization".  How many syllables does that have?  We worked on our closing for our "How to "stories.  We doodled a puppy.  I wonder if you will be able to draw a puppy without the instructions tomorrow?  We did two rounds of the daily 5 before breaking early for a snack.  You can't go skating on an empty stomach.

We went skating with the Grade 2's and 3's.  THANK YOU to all the adults who helped with fastening skates and helmets!  We can't tell you enough how much it is appreciated and makes the day go smoother.  I was so pleased that everyone was safe, polite, and followed the rules.

After an indoor lunch, because it was raining and still not snowing, we went to the book fair to look at the books available.  Some students took pencils and wrote the names of what they might like and took them home.  Did you write more than one thing?

We had PE with Mrs. McFarlene.  Who was your washer toss partner?  What is the biggest safety rule when playing washer toss?

We finished off the day with a desk clean, a French greeting circle, and French version of a counting circle.

Have a great night, get lots of sleep, dress warm, and I will see you in the morning.

It was a busy day today.  Our report cards went out and we seemed to have a few memo's aswell.  The book fair is starting, new hot lunch memo's and parent teacher times (click on the photo left to see your time).

We started out with some rhyme riddles.  What word wall word could help me spell "light"?   Listen to the ending!  Our spelling word was "interview".  We finished writing our own "How to" stories and we doodled a puppy.  We had a writers share, and we did a round of the daily 5 before recess.

After recess we had math.  We did some skip counting math cirlcles.  We did a math addition sheet.  We looked at rounding and adding with a  missing number.  5+__=8  What would go in the missing space?  I hope those will help us with our subtraction next week!

After an outdoor lunch we had PE with Mrs. McFarlene.  I saw you sitting in front of a bean bag.  How do you play that game?  In computer we worked on scratch.  Were you able to make your sprite walk forward and backward?

We finished off the day packing up our agenda's, we watched some of a Mr. Bean Cartoon and called it a day.  Tomorrow we have skating! We will be leaving the school going to the LBA at 10:10.  Our Ice time is from 10:30-11:30.  All students must wear a helmet to be permitted on the ice.  You are welcome to skate with us and any help you can give snapping on helmets and fastening up skates would be greatly appreciated!

Have a great night, get lots of sleep, dress warm, and I will see you in the morning.
